I'm not exactly sure what I should and shouldn't buy in terms of clothes for my newborn. I don't know whether sleeveless onsies are okay or shorts because of the babies exposure to the sun. Does anyone know how they'll dress their summer newborn?
I think this depends on where you live - summer in Miami is a whole other ballgame than summer in Boston.
I'm basically planning on a whole lot of onesies (some long sleeved, some short sleeved) with a selection of cotton pants. For nighttime, I'm getting Aden + Anais sleep sacks because the muslin will be nice and light for warmer (but not hot) nights. I'm in Boston so I grew up with a "dress in layers" mentality (you never know when the weather is going to change up here) so I'm applying that same philosophy. A general rule of thumb that I've heard a lot is to dress baby in one layer more than what you're wearing.
I think this is great question, cause I honestly have no idea. I know I will be given a bunch of clothes, and I know that babies can't really regulate their temperatures well so I was also thinking the sleeveless onesies most of the time (we don't have central AC, just window units that we usually don't need cause it doesn't really get super warm where I live, either) while in the house, and maybe the same for a walk in the stroller in the afternoon, but with a light blankie in conjunction with the canopy for breathable shade. But, I'm a FTM, so I would also appreciate some input on this whole clothing situation
My mom and MIL have both given me sleeveless onesies and dresses for DD. They have 6 and 4 kids so the fact that they both gave me them makes me feel comfortable using them. That being said, when DD wears them I'll be extra careful to keep her in the shade. My mom is a melanoma survivor so I'm really big on being cautious about sun exposure!
I'm so confused as well! I live in central CA where temps can be up to 115 in the summer! Nights are in the 80s. I'm just wondering if I'm going to need any sleepers?

Presumably you have A/C (I can't imagine sleeping in 80 degree weather but that might be my New England blood talking) so I would definitely buy a few.
kales0719 NE Wisconsin here (Door Co.)! Just moved here last summer and it didn't seem to really begin to warm up until mid June as it was! Hoping for an earlier start to sunshine this summer!
Texas momma here expecting baby #5. I've bought a bunch of sleeveless cute onsies and a bathing suit b/c well its a girly cute as hell one. And I've bought a bunch of light sleepers and gowns for when we are home. But we will be at the baseball fields a lot with my older two boys and also have several tennis tournaments and swim lessons and yeah. Lots of outdoor time. So lots of onsies and lots light airy dresses. I bought some Aden & Anais muslin blankets for if we are outside in the evening and she'll need a little something. Plus some sun hats. And a freaking pop up tent cover thing to help with sun protection. So far that's my game plan! Lol
My last baby was June too. Honestly between inside AC and outside heat, I felt like I needed a bit of everything. It also seems to depend on the baby. My son seemed to want to wear as little as possible out in the heat (I'd try to keep him out of the sun), but he'd want to be bundled up inside in the AC, especially at night. This time I am just using hand-me-downs and second hand shops to grab a bit of everything so I have a range. One thing I'm not doing is buying anything new this time around, even at the cheaper places like Target or Carter's. In my areas the Goodwills are amazing, everything is $2-3 and 1/2 off kids clothes on Thursdays. Tons of brand names, even Crew Cuts and Mini Boden. I mix that with what friends and family hand down to us and my kids are dressed well without my spending much of anything. Whens its $1-$1.50 I feel comfortable picking up more layering options and if I don't use them I'll pass them on to someone else who needs them.
Yea I figured because of the change in temperature between my home and outside that I should have a range of things for her to wear. I even bought a cute little sun hat for her from Carter's for when we go outside. Thank you guys for your suggestions and insight!
Re: Shopping for Summer Newborn Clothes
Im mainly buying t-shirts onesies and some shorts for going out to events.
I found a lot of the time just around the house a naked baby is comfy for a baby in the summer
but it is all up to with what your comfortable dressing your baby in.
Soon to be Momma to Elliott ( 06.04.15 or sooner)
