Tracking newborn feeding/schedules etc

I just had some questions as to what worked well for MoMs to track all those important details like who peed/poo'd when, who are how much, what side they nursed from if bfing etc. Was there a great app that worked for twins too? A white board? Notepad?

Re: Tracking newborn feeding/schedules etc

  • I used the app Total Baby until they were 9 months old to track nursing.  I did not really do more than track feedings, but it was super useful.  The app allows you to enter in two kids, so you can time both of them at the same time for tandem feedings.  It helped me keep track of sides, but as they got older, it did not really matter to me that they switched.

As for tracking diapers, I was less consistent with that.  Every once in a while, one of them would go days without pooping so I would try to make note of when that last happened, but I did not follow it daily.  Now I don't use the app at all, but they are on a pretty consistent pattern.

  • We bottle fed (either pumped or formula) so honestly it was easiest to just make a simple excel chart with their names and plenty of spaces for times and leave it on the counter. So many people were coming and going those first few months that it was the easiest way for everyone to help out.  We could nap and then when we woke up we just looked at the chart to see what happened. We would all would write down bottles, meds (acid reflux), bottles, dirty or wet diapers, etc.

Even now, our nanny still uses the chart. It's nice to be able to see the progress they have made.

  • I used the sprout baby app and liked it. You had to buy the paid one in order to enter two kids but it worked well for tracking BF. I still use it to track milestones, ht/wt at the dr, and immunizations. I find it handy to have everything in one place.
  • We bottle feed and we also found it best to use an excel sheet as we had helpers and some night nurses the first two months. Now that we are on our own I'm thinking about switching to an app but haven't done much research yet.

  • We used baby connect. It has worked great with twins. It even allows for one entry to be done for both profiles or for them to be done separately.
  • We bottle fed and also used the Total Baby app! I loved it. Mostly we just used it for feeding and then if they were sick we'd monitor some other things.

  • Just did a piece of paper with columns with their names and whenever they ate or had a bum change we just wrote it down. it was easy to see the pattern after a bit. I tried to keep it as simple as possible so not to overwhelm myself. My girls are now 18mo the and they happy healthy toddlers.
