Doctor

Hi ladies,
I found out i was almost 6 weeks pregnant late Friday.. Made appointment with whatever Dr was available (because i was so excited) on Monday who has sent me off for blood tests and return to him on Friday to discuss results.

My question is: Do you see your doctor much throughout your pregnancy or do you start going to Obstetrician? Reason being i didnt feel comfortable with this doctor and he didnt seem to "specialise" in pregnancy etc.. When asked if he has kids his response "No thats why im happy" gahhh

Not sure if its worth trying to change to a different Dr.

Any advice would be great :)

Re: Doctor

  • I am going straight to an OB. I saw a nurse practitioner at my clinic because I needed to establish care with someone there, but she did not do any tests. I actually see the assistant of my ob tomorrow at 8 weeks 4 days for the first time and then I will see the OB on April 6th. I would definitely go to an OB if that option is available to you, but I know many women on here have talked about that in their country (I don't remember which one) they stay with their primary care until around 20 weeks. I'm in the USA and I know many ob's won't see you until at least 8 weeks unless there have been previous issues/high risk.

  • This is my first so no real idea but after giving me a referral for an OB, my doctor said she won't be seeing me much through the pregnancy unless the OB suggests I see her. I'd find someone you trust though as if there are any complications you will need to see someone and all going well in 8ish months time you'll need a doc to look after your little one!
