OK. I have tossed around posting this for fear of snarly opinions and comments, my nerves are frayed and finished.. But because of my ignorance as a first time mom (#5 baby now and a bit more under my belt)I feel I need to share this.
I have nothing against midwives, I had an exceptional one. But she had to be at a conference when in labor with #1, had no clue what to expect... Induced at 41 weeks, I had a big beautiful daughter 9lbs 4 oz. Long story short- midwife was fired for not backing down to a Dr when one was needed:( I went home with a nearly ruptured bladder, cathater for 6 weeks because it no longer worked and lifelong issues... My husband is scared of midwives now. THERE ARE GREAT ONES. JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FULL TRUST!!
Last week a dear friends lil sister had a huge boy 10lbs 6oz.. Over due. Same thing happened but she pushed for 6.5 hours.. 3.5 hours midwife finally called a Dr. Baby was in birth canal to far, so cs was out, forceps were used the next 3 hrs and baby was born. He has been in a children's hospital with ongoing seizures and mama just came out of a 3 hour reconstructing surgery. ONCE AGAIN- I do not want to scare anyone!!! I only hope this will help even ONE unborn and uneducated mama!!!! Because I just figured they knew best. Don't be scared to ask for a Dr opinion!!
Please no comments. Unless you have a story that could also help warn
Re: not wishing to scare anyone. only hoping to bring caution
(Caution!! Infant death referenced!!)
Last year my very good friend was 38.5 weeks pregnant with her first baby and had been busy making freezer meals all day for when her DS decided to make his appearance. At the end of the day, when she actually had time to sit down, she realized that she hadn't felt him move all day. So she called her doctor and they told her to drink some juice, lay down and do a kick count for an hour. Nothing. Went to the hospital, hooked her up for a NST for 45 mins and wasn't getting any movement and a very weak heart beat. They finally rushed her for an emergency CS. Her DS was born with his cord wrapped 4 times around his neck and it had pinched itself off. The doctors had to do CPR on him for 9 mins before they got him back. He spent the next day on life support because he couldn't breath on his own. The next day both his lungs collapsed and he was put into a medically-induced coma. By day 4 his heart gave out and they couldn't get him back.
I would never wish that on my worst enemy, it was one of the hardest things to go through as a friend.
Just as the original poster, I don't mean to scare. I know it's a totally freak thing that happened and there was nothing at all that she could have done. But please, please, please, do your kick counts every day and if you sense that something is wrong please go and get checked!!
