Hi, Guys! FTM, 30 weeks due 5/27, diagnosed with GD a week ago. I've stuck to the diet since the first day, and only after 1 meal (provided at a work conference) were my levels high. I find myself with alot of anxiety to experiment with foods, because I've convinced myself any number over hurts my sweet girl. Any support would be great!
Hello, my name is Ashley, I am 30 weeks and due 5/27/15 as well.
I miss having chocolate, icecream, fruits cakes, and milk tea/starbuck.
My glucose numbers were almost higher than target for fasting and at dinner for the first week even when I followed the diet plan. The doctor prescribed med the other day for dinner only and last night the number was under target. Fasting is still a bit high but not as high without med. I'm feeling hopeful and hope I could get it under control.
Food that spiked my glucose that I will not be having is white anything like rice, pasta, buns.
I think more proteins, less carbs is the way to go. However, I still need to research snacks idea. Tired of crackers and peanut butter, yogurt, string cheese and hummus.
I do not just miss one thing... I miss all things full of carbs. I can get away with eating ice cream. I sat and ate a pint of it and my numbers were only at 99. I eat pasta just get the low carb kind. Same thing with enchiladas just with low carb tortillas. I do have to say I miss real bread. I want soft, fresh bread with deli meat....and a Pepsi. Oh ok one other thing which my hubby said he will get me as soon as baby is born. A box of doughnuts and a good coffee.

You will be fine to experiment a little and if you are diet controlled then you can even have days that you can cheat. My doc let me pig out at my baby shower and to my surprise my sugar levels stayed low. In my last post like I said you can eat pasta and other things just replace with low carb products. Dream fields pasta carried at Walmart hit your blood sugars slowly so you do not get that high number. There are low carb breads. Mine is 16 carbs for 2 pieces. Just looks for stuff. Dont be worried about a few high numbers here and there. Also Atkins has some shakes and bars that are not bad tasting depending on the ones you get and are very low net carbs. Dont stress your self. If you need any meal ideas or anything you can ask me.
I really miss lemonade! But I've found that I can't cheat with even a small amount (4 oz) or I pay the price all day. It's fine because I've learned I CAN have Italian ice from Ralph's without a problem so I've been using that to satisfy my sweet tooth. Otherwise, I'm sticking to low carb, high protein meals and my numbers look really good.
Hi guys. I'm 31 weeks due 5/20/2015 and I just found out yesterday. I am meeting with my Dr next week to talk about it and schedule an apt with the dietician.
I'm really missing the occasional cookie or piece of candy for dessert after dinner. I also was super addicted to a can of dr pepper a day and I'm really missing that as well. I've only had 2 diet cokes in the last month and sodas don't really even taste that good anymore. Maybe this will break the habit even after baby girl is here.
Everything seems to screw with my sugar, though things have been stabilizing somewhat. Monday is the day that I will find out if I have to go on meds or not. Last week my dr told me there was about a 90% chance of it but she was giving me another week to try to let things stabilize and get under control. The exact meal that is fine one day spikes it really high the next
Hello again all. I have noticed crackers spike my blood sugars, also not drinking enough water makes my numbers wacky too. I don't really miss any food yet, I'm kinda bummed out that I can't have cake/ sweets at my shower. Almost there ladies:)
What ya ladies snack on at bedtime to get the numbers under target? For some reason my numbers are still a bit high fasting. The doctor prescribed med to take at bedtime which was when my dinner & fasting was almost always higher than target. The med is working for dinner but not fasting for some reason. Last night I had whole grain crackers (15 carbs as instructed), 2 tbsp of all natural peanut butter, and I drank 1/2 cup of milk. This morning meter read 104 which is higher than target of 95. I did slept in later than my usual time so not sure if that have anything to do with it.

I'd say your medicine and diet are doing a fantastic job. 104 is not at all a bad number and hardly off from 95. I wouldn't change what you're doing. It seems to be doing wonders. Don't try to over compensate, it can make your numbers more whacky.
My doctor put me on meds for 4 out of 7 numbers being above 90 (and only one above 95). My numbers plummeted so I went off. My doctors seemed more concerned about fasting numbers than anything else. With that said, I tried so many different things for my evening snacks. The 1 oz bag of chips is the only thing that consistently gives me numbers under 90. I really want to try other healthier things but I also don't want the meds again. Fruit didn't do good things for my numbers.
The only thing that seemed to lower my fasting to below 95 is having eggs at night. I have one egg before bed with a small piece of cheese and it works! I take it with one tums because it gives me heart burn.
Hello! I am due 5/29 and have been diagnosed with GD for the past few weeks.
Definitely missing sweets, but the longer I go without them, the less I crave them. I tell myself that maybe getting used to being on this diet will help me stick with a diet to lose the baby weight after.
Fasting blood sugars are a little high so taking metformin before bed now. I hate taking medication but the doc says it's safer for the baby than high blood sugar.
Hi. I'm due 5/01 and was just diagnosed with GD today.... I'm feeling so lost, I don't see the dietician until later this week and I'm feeling guilty about everything I eat because I know nothing how how to manage this... I'm so stressed out! I'm so thankful that I only have another 5 1/2 weeks to go
Any advice or recipes that work for you would be very much apperciated
@jgillis13 don't panic. Search for my other check ins. Search gd and a lot of advice should comeup. I didn't change my diet completely. I just altered it to include less carbs. Good luck! Look at the bright side... only 5.5 weeks! You can do that!

Hi:) I know exactly how you feel trust me. When I found out I had diabetes a few weeks ago I had such a hard time accepting it. It was hard, I hate needles and knowing that I have to pricks my fingers 4 times daily is gonna sucks really bad. I didn't even eat that much sugar to be honest so I was surprised. My mom has diabetes so that could be one factor, however there are many other factors such as your age, race, etc. Don't blame it on yourself because it might not even be you. Many pregnant woman get GD because of your body and how it react to pregnancy hormones. You wil find out more info when you go to see a specialist. Don't worry too much, I know it's hard. But they will start you on a diet which tell you what to eat, what not to eat and how much to eat etc. it's a lot to take in but breathe, and the whole diet is really just eating less carbs and more proteins. You will be ok, even the pricking fingers get a lil easier each day. Lmk if I can help answer anything else, good lucks.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I'm really not that surpised that I ended up with GD, since diabetes is on both sides of my family.... I was actually more surprised when I past the test at 25 weeks haha. I think the waiting right now is the worst part! once I see the specialist this week I'm hoping my nerves will calm down.
Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I am 30 weeks 4 days due May 29th. Just found out I have GD last Monday, met with a RD last Thursday, and starting dieting and checking my blood on Friday. It's been going well so far, but my blood sugar spikes pretty high at least once a day. I figured this will be trial and error to figure out which foods make it go high. I ate a lot of carbs and sugar before diagnosed, so it's been really difficult to turn down certain foods. I also noticed a lost a couple pounds since dieting. Has anyone else??I see my doctor next week, so I am interested to see the game plan for the rest of my pregnancy.

Hi JGillis. I went through a similar type of shock with my diagnosis too. Once I met with my dietician though and she helped put it in perspective, that helped a lot. I started with small, manageable changes--a high protein breakfast to start my day and restricted carb management throughout the day. So I didn't cut carbs completely but I make sure that I have no more than a cup with lunch or dinner. The hardest part has been limiting my fruits. But you'll find your own way. We're all so close! Good luck and hang in there!

Since the weather had been nice, I've had a nutty bar as my afternoon snack and after my walk and dinner, my numbers have been good.
