Formula question

Right now LO is breast fed exclusively with about 4oz a day we supplement with Similac supplementation. I have a horrible ear infection and I'm on medication that my doctor prescribed that's making me dry up. Honestly I have been through the ringer with breastfeeding and it's starting to become to much physically and emotionally. I take blood pressure medicine because I have raynauds of the nipple and I have over active let down so I have to pump or else my LO projectiles. I was wondering can similac supplementation be used alone? Or do I need to switch him to a regular formula? I can't really find anything online about this. I will call my doctor tomorrow for anyone who wants to post ask your doctor. Just wondered if anyone knew, thank you!

Re: Formula question

  • I think the only difference is that the one for supplementing has more prebiotics in it.

  • Ditto what PP said.  I read somewhere that the Similac supplement has ingredients to help with digestion.  You should be safe to continue on with that for as long as you need.  I supplemented very early on and remember in my sleep deprived fog reading each to make sure they contained mostly the same ingredients because I have accumulated a ton of formula samples.
  • Ok awesome thank you so much!
  • Yep- we use donor breastmilk and formula. If you check the labels, most formulas are almost identical. Enfamil NB, supplementing and infant only vary by the tiniest amount! It's crazy.

  • Ditto to the fact that they vary so little it probably doesn't matter. Also the Enfamil hotline is great.
