Nipple Stimulation causing LABOR??

okay so this is probably a bad idea on my part but I just got my breast pump. It's a manual one and I just really wanted to try it out and see what it felt like. Nothing crazy I just wanted to get a feel for what it was going to be like if I had to pump, which I plan on doing anyways. I'm 33 weeks + 2 days and so I go and try this breast pump and some colostrum actually dripped out. I was really excited to see that my boobs actually functioned properly but I'm also worried because I hear it can kick start labor. Did I make a mistake!?

    It won't cause it right away. But if you continue, it could. I wouldn't do it again until you and your ob or mw have discussed your plan.

    I would not do it again. It also is not suggested to even attempt to pump for several weeks after your baby is born so your milk can be established and get used to breast feeding. I would suggest getting a book or something about breast milk, breast feeding and pumping before trying again. I believe it also states in your manual to not try this before your baby is born...

    I was told by multiple people that it is used as a way to induce labor, but that would require pumping for at least 2 hours to stimulate that response! Honestly I wouldn't be so worried! Yet again, I am not a doctor.

    You really have to be pumping for awhile to cause contractions.  I did the same thing you did when I was pregnant with my first and nothing happened.  I wouldn't worry, but don't continue doing it either!

    agree with pp. you should be fine, just take it easy and don't do it again. I nurse my dd, and I have to limit our nursing sessions to only am/pm and less than 2 minutes each time. Otherwise, contractions become pretty painful and I worry I may be causing issues with preterm labor.
