Insomnia..

I have been waking up and staying up anywhere from 1-3hrs at night for the last few weeks. Tonight it is almost 2a and I simply cannot fall asleep. I am already taking a cocktail of different medications for various things so adding Benadryl/or other sleep aids to the mix isn't ideal until I talk with my OB about it at my appt this week.

Anyone else dealing with insomnia?

  • I don't fall asleep until about 6 am then I'm up at 9-10 am I get sleepy around 10-11pm so I'll try and sleep I'm up again in an hour and can't fall asleep until 6 like I mentioned before lol. It's been going on for weeks! And even if I skip that little hr long nap it doesn't help me fall asleep any sooner. Lol. It's 4:52 am here and I'm wide awake watching NCIS hahaha
  • Yes! I'm getting more and more uncomfortable, which is making it difficult to fall asleep. That, combined with the frequent peeing in the middle of the night, is making a good nights sleep a distant memory! I am now officially on maternity leave so I am hoping to catch some day time naps.
  • Yup the other night I woke up at 330 and went on pinterst until 5 lol then forced myself to close my eyes and was able to sleep till 8am when my LO woke up. Last night however I slept like a baby until my work alarm went off seeing I spent the day walking around Disney at almost 39 weeks haha so I've learned if you wear yourself out...no problems!! :)
  • I usually don't have a problem initially falling asleep. I actually go to bed a lot earlier than before I got pregnant. But some nights everytime I get up to pee it's 1-2 hours before I can fall back asleep and it sucks.
  • Try not to use any electronics an hour before you get into bed. It's helped me so much in the past that I don't even have a tv in the bedroom. And when you wake up in the middle of the night leave the lights off unless you absolutely need them.
Insomnia is mostly about brain stimulation (lights, sounds, over thinking things, etc.) so if you take that away it may become easier for you to fall back asleep.
  • Yup! I can usually fall asleep about 10pm, then I'm awake at 2/3am. Multiple pee breaks, then I just can't fall asleep because I'm
    Unconfortable.
  • I don't know if I ever actually fell asleep last night....
  • I'm totally hearing you. I'm wide awake and wandering around the house like a ghost most nights. I think it's part of the game unfortunately. I was the same in my first pregnancy, and it turned out that the time I had been waking every night was the time baby would wake for a feed after he was born. Good luck. We're almost at the end now
  • Benadryl has helped me... unless it's a restless leg night, then it's just frustrating!
  • I can't sleep either so I'm on here lol meanwhile my husband and dogs are all passed out and snoring... I've never been so jealous hearing someone sleep. I'd be happy with just 4-5 good hours of solid sleep
  • Totally in the same boat. I saw my midwife today and she said to try a natural sleep remedy called Clams Forté. It is just a tablet form of chamomile. If you don't want to take another pill, then you can always try drinking chamomile tea before bed. Just know that you'll have to pee more in the night.
As always, consult your doctor or midwife before taking it, as they may have other opinions. Especially if you are taking other meds.
Tonight will be my first night using it, so hopefully it works! Hope you find some relief, too.
