Brigham and Women's Hospital

I apologize if there's already a thread like this but I couldn't find one.  Has anyone delivered at Brigham and Women's Hospital? What has your experience been? We are with Dr. Mansour-has anyone been seen by him? I'm a FTM and would really appreciate any feedback.  I've heard great things about Brigham and Women's but I would love to hear what other people's experience has been.  Thank you so much!!

    I had a great experience there with my first. I had a long labor and some slight complications and they were professional throughout. They are incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable. You cannot go wrong!

    ** I will say that they are a busy L&D unit... when I got there (on a full moon night) all of the labor rooms (and they have A LOT) were full, so I had to wait a bit.

    I delivered there and it was amazing. I went through their midwife practice, not the OB practice so I know things are a bit different in how they deal with things. My midwife actually ended up being the one who did my delivery which was amazing. They let me control the delivery and never forced me to do something I didn't want. I had an all natural birth and didn't want any meds or interventions. They completely respected that. I pushed for over 3 hours and was never forced to get a cesarean, which I have heard is standard after 2 hours. I loved that the rooms are private and there are tub rooms available, which I did get to use. All in all i recommend it there! Just be sure your insurance covers it because it is PRICEY! ( $34,000 for a standard delivery)

    I, had both of my children there back in 94 and 99...i an, a, harvard vanguard patient and they used to deliver there.
    I had positive experiences there.i didn't think the nurses on the post partum floor were that friendly though. ..

    I delivered there in October. I had a c-section and everyone was awesome. My mom used to work on the Neo-natal floor so I got to see some of her old coworkers. Everyone was super nice.

    I delivered there in November and it was wonderful. I had the room with the tub and really enjoyed laboring in it. I also utilized the nitrous gas protocol but didn't find that it worked well for controlling pain. Everyone was very friendly and I would highly recommend it.

    I had an amazing experience at Brigham. I had scheduled a csection due to breech presentation and my dd decided to come a day early. I had some complications (fetal distress) and everyone was calm and professional throughout. The l&d nurses, pediatricians and lactation consultants are the best. Seriously I can't say enough good things about them. Good luck!

    Does anyone know if the postpartum rooms are private or shared?  I recently heard from a friend that MGH has shared postpartum rooms, although they try not to put 2 women in a room unless they have to.  I think having 2 women who don't know each other and 2 newborns in a room sounds like a nightmare.  Thanks!

    I am an FTM and will probably be delivering at Beth Israel. This is where all of my doctors are and because I have a complicated medical history, it makes sense for me to be with my specialists. Many of my friends have delivered at BWH... They're supposed to be the best! I don't think that you can go wrong, I've never heard of anybody that didn't have a good experience. The other great thing about the hospital is that is connected to children's so for the women that I've known with babies that are going to need definite care, it's the only place to deliver.

    I was even born there myself, it was called Boston lying in then

    I had both of my boys there (2011 planned csection and vbac oct. 2014). Both experiences were excellent. The nurses in L&D, triage and the OR were knowledgeable and kind. The lactation consultants were great-I had so many latch issues with my first-I owe the fact that I breastfed him for a year to my post partum nurse Miriam and the LC's.
    My vbac was great-got an epidural the second I wanted it. All the rooms are private to the best of my knowledge. Food is good and they are kind to visitors, respect that you want your baby in the room with you, but will happily bring them to the nursery for a few hours so you can sleep until they are ready to eat. Great hospital and we plan on going back when we eventually have baby #3.

    I just delivered my first at BWH. I liked that they had every option available to me (being comprehensive and high tech). Lots of experienced folks, particularly the anesthesiology team. Nurses by and large were great, although we had a few "visiting nurses" since it was the weekend, and our night nurse (post-partum) in particular sucked - was a know-it-all and lazy. I do think she was a total anomaly and looking back we should have requested a new nurse. The L&D nurses were great.

    L&D room was spacious, but post-partum room was comically tiny - but my sense is that that is true no matter where you go! No shared rooms in my experience. And the nurses were good about letting LO spend a few hours in the nursery so we could catch some sleep.

    The only really bad part of my experience at BWH was not even medical: they switched their IT system over halfway through my labor (not just L&D, the entire hospital). I literally had IT people in my room as I was in contractions as nurses had issues with freezing computer screens and the like. Eventually DH told everyone to GTFO. 

    I ended up having to go back to BWH 9 days post-partum for me - I had a partially retained placenta and at like 1 am found myself back there with LO and DH... back to L&D triage and everything. Nurses that night were just amazingly fabulous. And very glad I was able to get there for the D&C procedure that followed instead of my local hospital.

    I was considering Newton-Wellesley for any future children (it's closer), but after having the D&C procedure, I think I would stick with BWH as they seem to be more comprehensive and "current" with their facilities.

    I see Dr. Mansour, and I am due in two weeks. I cannot speak to delivery at Brigham yet, however, my experience with Dr. Mansour has been fantastic. He was recommended by a friend who had her daughter last summer. She had nothing but wonderful things to say. You are in good hands!

    I'm so sorry that you had complications. I am with BIDMC and had retained placenta a following a D&C in May. I thought that they handled it well but it's nice to see that this can happen even at the "top" hospital. Obviously, I would never wish this on anybody and I'm so glad that you are doing better now! We are just very lucky to have so many top-notch hospitals in our immediate area!
