Re: Worried labour is due

  • Everyone is a little scared. However, just remember your body is made to do this and either way, baby has to come out.

Read some books (hypnobirthing etc) and prepare yourself. The more educated you are, the better you'll cope.

Try and calm down, it's not good for you or baby.

  • I loved watching TLC baby shows if you can find some old ones. You'll do just fine, once contractions start you'll kick into auto drive... Just imagine all of the women that do it without doctors or 100s of years ago! You'll have a somewhat comfy bed at the hospital and lots of people who love and care for your well being and baby too.
  • Is it bad that I'm not freaking out about giving birth? I feel like it's one day of pain, for a lifetime of joy. I'm just so excited to meet my baby, that it's overshadowing the fear of the pain I know I will feel at some point. I went on a tour of the hospital I will be delivering, and they made me feel really at ease. They have a laboring tub, and birthing balls, and all types of things I can use. Also asking for an epidural isn't a huge deal. They want you to be at 4cm, but do their best to make you comfortable. You should do the tour, and try and relax until it's show time. Birth is inevitable, and you get a nice big present at the end of it.
  • I was scared at first too! What got me thru is the excitement of bringing a bundle of joy into this world! It's going to happen when your LO is ready but believe me it's definitely worth it!
  • STM here - totally terrified!
  • I'm growing baby number three. I was scared with the first two and scared about this one, too. I think it's normal to have a little fear, especially the first time. My first I had an epidural and with my second I had nothing at all. I'm going to try for all natural again because things seemed to go a lot smoother that way! It sounds odd maybe, but with the epidural I couldn't feel when I needed to push. But delivery still turn out fine. My second birth went much faster.
