at my 31 week check up I mentioned to my midwife about having contractions that day. She did a fetal fibronectin test that came back positive so now I am on bedrest for 2 weeks til we can repeat the test. Anyone else have any experience with this?
Did you have sex the day or two before the test? I've had it done a few times (both negative) but it sounds like false positives are common, especially if you've had sex or a cervical exam 24-48 hours before the test. Hope in your case it's a false positive!
I have had ffn done twice. both times was negative. it's notoriously unreliable, unfortunately. but i think your midwife is still recommending best course of action! good luck! Sorry you're on bedrest- it's so boring! but hopefully your peanut will stay put for a while!
No sex or exam before the test ( about a week since sex) but I'm hoping for a false positive! It is boring! But with 3 other children never a dull moment! Thanks!
I just had the FFN a couple days ago bc I was having contractions every 3 mins while hooked up to the monitor. A negative result is 95+% accurate at telling you that you won't go into labor in the next two weeks. But, a positive result is only 20% accurate at predicting labor in the next two weeks. So it's a good test for reassuring that you won't, but not accurate at predicting that you will.
I had a 2 hr contraction "episode" this morning. They got so bad I had to get in a warm bath, which eventually slowed them down and they finally stopped! I was in tears for a while there. I'm going to have the dr check me tomorrow to see if these "episodes" are doing anything.
This test isn't very accurate if it's positive, but extremely accurate if it's negative. In midwifery school, it was the actual example we were given to understand specificity and sensitivity.
Let us know what doc says about those contraction episodes!!! I have been having them since 24 weeks, but just about 2 weeks ago they started causing some change. Just effaced 50%, no dilation, doctor only grimaced but said no restrictions, just take it easy.Fine wtih that! Hoping good things for you!
At my appointment my midwife decided not to do any checks or anything to mess with my cervix so nothing gets started. I get it but my anxiety level is through the roof. Oh well, keeping this baby girl safe is top priority!
