Never Ending Chores

I've never been great at staying tidy at home but I do keep up with basics like laundry and dishes. I just feel like there's too much "stuff " for the amount of space we have.. I'm pretty good about purging, in fact sometimes I throw important things away because it overwhelms me.
I was babysitting my newphew who is 7 1/2 months and he was crawling everywhere and it was actually dangerous because of random clutter.
How do you guys do it?? I want to straighten out before baby comes but feeling defeated :(

Re: Never Ending Chores

  • Just get organized now while you have time before baby comes. I literally went through every closet and room in my house, and purged what I did, and didn't need and downsized. Don't worry about getting it done in one day, just do something everyday to work towards what would make you most comfortable. I kept in mind the baby was coming and I needed room for his stuff. Things I wanted to keep, like wedding gifts but didn't have a need for in daily life, went into storage tubs and on shelves in the garage. Having less things makes keeping the house clean and safe a lot easier.

  • I don't have too many clutter issues but I do struggle to keep up with regular house chores now that I have two kids and a third on the way. What works for me is to create a weekly chore chart. My home is divided up into zones and I clean one zone per day. Kitchen and dining on Monday, bathroom and living room on Tuesday, etc. And I do a really good job on each zone each day. But if it is not bathroom day, I simply don't worry about the bathroom. Otherwise I could and would feel pressure to deep clean my whole house every day and would hate my life/kids/husband.

Check pinterest for adult chore charts. It is a technique that is really helpful. Good luck!
  • I have things I need to do before I go to bed at night- toys picked up and put away, kitchen clean, and dishes done. I clean the rest of the house as needed. There's no way I can do any more than that, on top of keeping up with the kids and laundry. I'm sure once you get into a routine with your baby, you'll find a new comfort level.

  • I have the opposite problem. I do too much cleaning everyday. Every single day I vaccum and sweep my entire house, I wipe down all counters in kitchen and bathrooms, I make all beds, do a load or two of laundry, and load and unload dishwasher. Then every other to every 3rd day I also mop entire house, dust, clean toilets, and wipe all mirrors. It's like an addiction to me and by the end of the day I'm crampy, have bh contractions and my feet are massive swollen. Ugh why I can't just let it go sometimes is beyond me!
  • @PaisleesMomma we might be the same person. My regimen is identical. It's kind of sick, but I like when people compliment how clean my house is. 8->

This is true! I forgot to mention my biggest dilemma, I don't have any storage space :( a garage would be lovely lol.
  • We live in an apartment. We have ALOT of storage cabinets and toy storage. Just try to be smart about space and organization. Everything should have a have a home. I'm not one to clean all the time but we try to keep things picked up. We store things at my parent's also. Kinda a pain in the butt since they live 4 hrs away. I usually pick up after my son towards the end of the day. It's too exhausting picking up behind him all day long.

  • I feel your pain. I'm great at putting things away or back in their place but I'm terrible at keeping up with the vacuuming, dusting, etc. By the time I get home from work every night I just want to lay on the couch. Now, here it is Saturday and I feel obligated to get all of the chores done. I like what pp said about dividing the house into zones. I just need to work on getting motivated during the week to do a chore or two every night after work.

This is a wonderful idea. It takes the pressure off "getting it all done"
  • @sassyg25 Awe no garage? Yeah sounds like a tough situation. Go through the clutter, sort it out. Maybe check Pinterest like PP mentioned. I love Pinterest. There might be some good organizing designs that work for your house.
