Buying baby clothes!

Ok, so what's everyone's baby clothes buying strategy?? I'm awesome at saving money on the clothes I buy for this baby girl but my question is: how much do they really need?
I had my son 6 1/2 years ago so I don't remember, plus boys fashion is not as fun to me.. I know it sounds silly because babies don't Care, they just want comfort. (I love Carters, cute and comfy)
I'm a sucker for the adorable baby girl clothes!! How much are you buying ahead, and are you like me and can't resist the adorableness?!
I'm sure when baby comes, clothing is not going to be a priority so I kinda want to get things now while I still have time

Re: Buying baby clothes!

  • I'm not buying a ton until after the baby shower on April 11. but i am buying some things. I've bought a few onesies in every size up to 12 months, footie pajamas, day outfits, the outfit to bring baby home in and the dress for her newborn photos. I also bought a few special occasion outfits that I was excited to find on sale racks. I bought a bunch of the items at TJMaxx (TKMaxx for those in the UK). I was stoked to find a lot of Burt's Bees baby clothes there. Cute!!!

What did you buy for your coming home outfit...? I am seriously struggling with this. I want to find something totally cute and girly since there will probably be a bazillion pictures that day (and probably the whole first week since its the first baby in our family for years), but I know there are some things you should stay away from such as gowns since you will be strapping them in a car seat. Should it be 2 pieces? is a dress weird/a little too mature for a newborn. I just don't know what I want or what would be best, but still significant as a coming home outfit.

This!  It was adorable, and shouldn't rub on her cord, and should work with the car seat.  Plus her nursery is safari, and the little monkey feet killed me with cuteness.
  • You could always get a onesie dress or a romper. That way it's not super dressy but it looks put together. My daughter wore a really cute pj outfit with a matching hat because it was still chilly when she was born in April last year.
  • I'm not buying much. I plan to buy 2-3 sleepers in newborn size, and I have stocked up on about 15 outfits (sleepers, cute outfits, etc.) in sizes that range between 0-6, 0-3, 3 month.

With dd, by 7 weeks she was in 3-6 month clothing and she was always in the 50th percentile. So I don't know how big this baby will be and how he will grow, so I'm just holding off. I bought enough to get me through the early weeks, and if I need dh to run out and grab a few more outfits in smaller sizes- fine. But this time around, I'm buying a lot used at nice resales or garage sale websites.

When I brought dd home from the hospital, I got her a matching onesie tshirt to wear that matched a shirt my husband had. (His was an acorn tree, hers the acorn). We plan to bring our son home in that onesie now. It made my husband hugely proud.
