Does anyone still drink coffee? I have one cup in the morning and usually another at lunch. My doctor said that 2 cups of coffee is fine.. I'm trying to limit it to just one cup. I Also will have chocolate in the day that adds to my caffeine.
I still have my morning cup but because I just make it at home, I've been adding less and less grounds. Or I've been doing half regular and half decaf. Still get my fix without the guilt of downing 20 oz of pure caffeinated bliss
I to drink drink decaf tea but I've gone off it & crave coffee eeek. I usually have 3 coffees Morning, afternoon & around 4pm ish. I'm trying to illuminate the 4pm one to bring it down to 2. My midwife said it was fine but try switch to decaf coffee..
My caffeine intake looks like this: I fill a traveler's mug of regular coffee in the morning, but 9/10 times I don't finish it (sometimes less than half). I also have a 12oz can or bottle of diet coke in the afternoon at work. Sometimes I'll try harder and drink water in the afternoon (or have a caffeine free diet coke) so I can have the caffeine diet coke after work at home.
I get what I call "pregnancy tired" around 2pm at work and sometimes that caffeine is a Godsend.
Very rarely do I go over what I listed. I tried to switch to tea but had strong aversions to it my first few weeks of pregnancy. Every now and then I have coffee aversions. Sometimes it depends on the day for coffee.
I know there are those out there who think diet coke is terrible for pregnancy, but I'm very good at filling myself with healthy foods, snacks, and water throughout the day so I'm not worried about my diet coke intake.
I used to have one cup a day; I feel safe continuing this, but I had an aversion to coffee most of my first trimester. It's better now, but I'm still only able to drink half a cup or so. I'd think that two cups would be fine, too, as long as they're not too large.
I used to drink 2-3 cups daily before pregnancy but my doctor advised not to. He said one coffee or up to two is safe but depends on each person. If you are able to get quality rest with your coffee, I think it's fine! (I am not so I have refrained from drinking. It's been hard!!!)
He said there is no proof that coffee is bad for the baby but when miscarriages are studied, women who drank coffee during pregnancy had more miscarriages than women who have not.

The traditional statistics, though, generally do not account for nausea and coffee aversion. I would have felt safe drinking coffee early on, but I was too nauseous and had a coffee aversion, both of which have been linked to lower miscarriage rates. Studies that have controlled for this generally do not find a strong link between coffee and miscarriage. Information is from Expecting Better by Emily Oster.
So, statistically, just because women who drink coffee have more miscarriages, it does not mean that the coffee itself is the culprit. The third variables (lack of nausea and lack of coffee aversion) are themselves related to higher risk of miscarriage.
I have 1- 2 cups a day , i have 3 small children and one of them is a one year old so i get prettt exhausted at times, lol. Also it helps a lot with my migraines and headaches . my Dr is totally fine with it☺this is my fourth pregnancy , I drank coffee throughout my other ones as well (not overdoing it of course, no more than 3 cups )and all my pregnancies were healthy and perfect babies
That's what I've been doing, @tinyfeets - I cut down to one cup a day in the morning, 1/2 decaf and 1/2 regular. I LOOOOVE coffee and miss it terribly. Interestingly, my Keurig broke like, the day I got a BFP. Maybe a sign? Haha- but now I can at least make it half-caf with my yummy hazelnut.
There's nothing wrong with drinking coffee while pregnant in moderation but I've switched to tea with much less caffeine just because I haven't felt comfortable drinking so much caffeine in one sitting, if that makes sense? My mom drank coffee with both me and my brother and we were fine. I just choose not to. I think it's just personal preference
I go through phases with coffee.. at first it was disgusting I didn't want it at all plus it makes me pee like crazy and it dehydrated me before I was pregnant But every now and then I'll get a small cup and sip it and boy is it good! Anyone else get tired of the taste of something quickly? I'll want something so bad and as soon as I eat a little bit I get tired of the taste and don't want it anymore lol Everything is super powered! Taste. Hearing. Smells. I need variety in my life ha
My mother craved Pepsi,Spinach & Butterfingers with me and I turned ok. If you want a coffee or a pop have some coffee or a pop.Just don't drink an entire 2-liter or a whole pot of coffee lol
I have a cup with half decaf/half regular every morning. Sometimes on my way to work I'll get a cup of tea from Dunkin Donuts. That's about it. I miss my coffee!!!
Went from a 3-4 mug a day habit cold turkey pretty quick... a coffee aversion is a sure sign for me, as reliable as peeing on a stick! Just this week can drink it again. Trying to limit to 1 full caffeine (am) and 1 decaffeinated (afternoon ) daily. I like it so creamy and sweet it might hardly count to real aficionados
I was a major coffee drinker before I got pregnant. After 6 weeks I could no longer stand coffee or meat. Now at 13 weeks exactly today and I am now fine with meat but still not crazy about coffee. Had an iced coffee one afternoon but didn't finish it. Not complaining but super suprised!!!
I drink a cup every morning without fail. Sometimes half caf. I am still breastfeeding my son so I have been on only one cup a day for a long time now. I used to drink a ton more than that before I was pregnant with him. I was so excited for a latte spree once I weaned him but my plans have been derailed. I wanted full days of iced coffees and lattes. Haha!
I have a medium iced hazelnut decaf every morning from Dunkin. I used to never drink anything "decaf" LOL but the day I found out I was prego I switched to decaf. I thought I would hate it but honestly I don't- still tastes great especially flavored. The decaf still has some caffeine so that little bit helps in the am and it's better than nothing and I can still enjoy the taste. Most of everything else I drink is caffeine free- water most of the day and sometimes I'll have a small can of soda later in the afternoon when I'm exhausted but even that only has no more than 32 mg of caffeine so I'm still not going over the 200 mg a day.
I've been having 1/2-3/4 cup of regular in the morning and another in the afternoon. Sometimes I'll order a half caf from DD, or a coconut milk iced latte with one shot of espresso from Starbucks. I miss my daily venti iced coffee, but one venti has 350 mg of caffeine!
@jenboston22 I am reading this book now and am loving it. It has definitely helped calmed me down in the midst of all the "don't do this and don't eat that" business. It is disturbing how flawed some research is but we follow the results like law. Many pregnancy rules have correlations but are not causal.
Espresso has less caffeine than drip coffee so I have been happily enjoy my cup of latte without guilt! That said, I make it at home so I just limit it to one shot or even half if I feel sick that day
I'm drinking my morning cup right now! I definitely cut back but I still need at least one cup in the am (there were a couple days I even had 2 back to back). And I'll allow myself one other beverage with caffeine later in the day. Just like anything else we have to do it in moderation.
I mix decaf and caf grounds to make coffee, and allow myself 2 cups in the morning, though I usually only end up drinking 1. It has about 40 mg of caffeine in it, which allows me wiggle room for chocolate or if I want to get coffee or have a tea later too (tall caramel macchiato at Starbucks has about 90mg and I have been craving those sooo bad!)
My last two pregnancies I completely gave up coffee until the third trimester when I would only allow myself one cup. I tried to do it with this baby too, but found that drinking one cup in the morning helped my morning sickness so much that it was worth it to go ahead and drink it.
Major coffee aversion in the early weeks but it's tapered off and I've been having a few tall Starbucks vanilla lattes (75mg!) a week. Not anywhere near my usual prepregnancy coffee routine, which is probably a good thing lol.
Re: Coffee
I wouldn't worry if your only having 2 cups.
Is their really that much caffeine in chocolate?! Woops!! :-)

I just make sure that I don't exceed 200mg a day, and I avoid other caffeinated items when I've had coffee. Baby will be fine.
