Pick a side! Car seat placement.

DH and I are in disagreement. We need to fit two boosters and a car seat base in my 2014 explorer. I wanted to put the base in the middle but you can't use the LATCH system there, only on the two side buckets. So which side would y'all pick!! Driver or passenger?

Re: Pick a side! Car seat placement.

  • I always did behind the driver seat. So my passenger could give toys or whatever.:) but if they are on the other side they can see you .

  • Passenger side. That way if you need to all you have to do is glance back to make sure all is well.
  • Driver with a mirror was my plan - but I am lazy and don't want to have to walk around the car, plus if parking is tight you only have to worry about one side having access.
  • Passenger - I think it's easier to see them when you're on the road (quick glance over your right shoulder to the mirror on the backseat headrest).
  • I have the same dilemma. We have the third row, so I am putting the car seat base on the side where it's the two seat pull down (you know the seat that folds down so you can access the back row)...that probably doesn't make any sense.
  • Darn about no latch system in the middle... I had infant carrier in middle and two boosters on the side... I would just use the seat belt strap that locks but that's me. If I had to pick Id pick passenger for convenience to look back... Then oldest in middle. After a year of this nonsense I finally convinced my husband we should bite the bullet and get a van and I'm in love and ready for baby #4!

We do have a third row too and that was what DH said he would do. Put the base on the side with the two seats together. But that's the drivers side and I want to be able to look back at baby.

I didn't even think about just using the seatbelt!! Duh!! That may be what I do.

Thanks ladies for all your input be aside making decisions on my own are hard sometimes! :)

Someone once told me that behind the driver is the safest because it's instinct to try to protect your side if anything happens. It's probably just mumbo jumbo, esp if you have other kids, but that just always stuck with me. Also, just a quick shift of your rear view mirror and you can check on the baby :)
  • Passenger. Then I could reach to plug her binkie back in.

  • I was going to say do your older children go to school? If so what and you drop them off what side do they need to get out of?
  • I hardly ever have my step daughter with us but DD sits on the driver's side and climbs out the passenger door to go to school lol. I swear something so simple just had to become super complicated.
  • Ours is going on the passenger side because our dog only sits on the driver side! LOL!
