STM's - How practical is the bassinet attachment on strollers?

We registered for a Britax travel system, car seat and bassinet attachment. We received the stroller and bassinet but not the car seat. I'm torn between exchanging the bassinet for the car seat or keeping the bassinet and purchasing the car seat ourselves. I realize baby will only use the bassinet until she is able to sit up but I plan to use the bassinet for walks when she is sleeping or when I am trying to put her to sleep. STM's, did you love your bassinet on your stroller? How often did you use it? If you didn't have one did you wish you did?

Re: STM's - How practical is the bassinet attachment on strollers?

  • I personally hated it, and ditched it after trying to use it for a couple weeks. I loved being able to use the stroller as an actual stroller. And the bassinet combo took up a lot of space in our room. It was awkwardly shaped and our son didn't even like it. It did not work at all for us. But might for others. I ended up getting a $50 travel bassinet from target that my sister had and loved.
I would exchange for the car seat personally

  • I loved the bassinet on my single stroller for my DS. I am a big believer in the baby lying flat when young and having the flexibility to have baby face mama (both as bassinette and toddler seat) I also liked that I could carry DS into the house of he fell asleep in bassinette. When we walked to my parents he always had something we could put him in. We are now expecting twins and had to invest in another stroller and that was a feature I wasn't compromising on. I'm not familiar with the britax system but I like having the option of a bassinette. We also love in a rural town so walking was my form of exercise and entertainment.
  • I think they're about as useful as tits on a turtle, especially if the stroller has the car seat attachment. I just put my guys in that and went from there. But, both of my kids were refluxers, so laying flat wasn't a recipe for anything but disaster in our house.
  • I have a bassinet on my bugaboo and love it BUT I live in an area where you can walk a lot to places and don't need a car. Hope that helps!
  • Get the car seat, do you have another bassinet or a crib?
  • Yes we have a crib and she will sleep in the rock and play in our room at first. The bassinet attachment would be strictly for walks. I'm leaning toward exchanging for the car seat. It was too expensive for the number of times we will probably use it plus I'll have to find storage for it afterwards and it's cumbersome. Thanks ladies.
  • Baby shouldn't stay in the car seat for long periods of time. If your seat is suitable for a newborn I would say get the car seat bc a bassinet you can only use for so long. Plus the car seatwould be a more economical of you don't have one already.

  • I didn't use a stroller at all until...6 months or so? I found it easier to use a carrier (Moby at first, then Ergo). Easier to navigate, and I still had use of both hands.
