can a nurse make a mistake on my 3 hr glucose test

hey girls so i been going to a specialist that checks me for my HBP etc..she order the 1 hr glucose test at 22 weeks i did not pass by 2 points been the hr 140 and my score was 142. she told me to wait on 24 weeks n do the 3 hr.. well i did and my results were reallyy high according to the nurse ... which i was a lil skeptical bcuz my 1 hr was not high anyways i was put on a diet and given the finger picking machine which i need to check 4 times a day...

i been doing it for 3 days and none of the results are high.. my fasting been 75 2 hrs after breakfast lunch n dinner been all 120 or lower sometimes 99....

can the nurse make a mistake with my 3 hr test??? maybe the wrote my name wrong. idk my mom has diebetes and her fasting is 120 which is nowhere near mine... i checked in her machine and same numbers appear on hers 120

what should i do??? its stressfull if they made a mistake the nurses dnt know the stress they have put me tru....

Re: can a nurse make a mistake on my 3 hr glucose test

  • Hi

I think it's unlikely that they made a mistake but you can always sit the test again. The diet and checking your blood sugar is probably a good idea anyway as your mum has Diabetes. I would speak to whomever is co ordinating your care about the best course of action :)

  • It's unlikely! GD is stressful but following the treatment plan is imperative for you and babe. Also, as you go further along in pregnancy it is more likely you will develop more symptoms and even maybe have to be put on insulin just due to hormones/ your body not correctly producing insulin. This could explain why your numbers are higher after waiting to test for a couple weeks.

  • Were you eating very low carbs and low sugar? I've seen that it can skew results.
  • Can they? Yes. Is it likely? No. If you have concerns, speak with your doctor.

  • The only way there can be a 'mistake' is if the tubes were labeled with the wrong patient. As the bloods are typically sent to a laboratory.......that is scanned based with your ID information..........very very unlikely. Typically the nurses' involvement is strictly to take your blood sample.
  • Very unlikely, sorry.

  • Sorry, but it is unlikely a mistake was made. Unless that mistake was in labeling the sample tube, there aren't many places for a mistake to happen. Even a sample tube mistake is unlikely, unless they are just really shoddy with their laboratory technique. But as for misinterpretation of the results, a nurse may have called you with the results, but I'm sure it was your Dr who had the final lab review and gave the official 'yes, its GD'. But if you are really concerned there was a mistake somewhere along the way, bring your concerns to your Dr and ask to test again

  • I agree that it is unlikely a mistake, the 3 hr test is a much better gage of gd than the 1hr plus you take 100 vs 50g for the glucose so it will definitely measure different. Maybe your body can process a little but when it gets higher it cant.
