Not baby Related - Wedding Gifts

My brother is getting married at the end of April.  This is a second wedding for both of them so they are not registering for gifts.  I am a horrible gift giver without ideas.  I'm not close with my brother but for our wedding we got a $500 gift card to a travel agency so I want to spend the same amount on him. They have already booked their honeymoon in Jamaica for the week after so I think that idea is out.

Anyone have any awesome gift ideas?

thanks!

Re: Not baby Related - Wedding Gifts

  • Not sure if it's a regional thing for my area or what but it's pretty customary to just give a check or cash as a wedding gift. I'd go with just $500 check.

  • If you don't want to do a check or cash, then you could pay for an activity during their honeymoon. A couples massage / spa day with all the bells and whistles (sunset, dinner, facials, expensive champagne) could come close to that dollar amount. Or maybe a parasailing trip one day and sport fishing another day?

  • Money is the perfect wedding gift... Actual gifts are pretty frowned upon, at least in my area...
  • Your brother is probably not in this situation, but when I got married, I was unemployed because I knew I'd be starting grad school in 2 months and then my husband's job offer fell through, so we ended up having 2.5 months of neither of us working right off the bat. The only reason we made it through financially was because our wedding guests were super generous to us - every check we received was very much needed and appreciated. Because we didn't know DH's job fell through until the following Monday, we spent the wedding thinking he'd just been hired, so the money truly was wedding gifts, not charity. Again, I doubt your brother is in that situation, but speaking from experience, checks are fantastic wedding gifts that the couple will be thrilled about.

  • I say money. And maybe surprise them with a couples massage package at the hotel/resort when they arrive.
  • Cash or maybe a gift card towards something they want/use. Like if they need improvements on their house than a Home Depot Card. Or if they want new furniture from Pottery Barn. But you'll be fine with cash or a check :)
  • Where I'm from cash is king
