Refusing sleep in crib

my LO sleeps great at night in his bassinet, and naps pretty good during the day in his swing. I've been trying to get him used to his crib by putting him In there for naps but he refuses to sleep there. Sometimes he will lay awake in there and be happy and other times he screams and cries. But will not sleep. Any suggestions?

Re: Refusing sleep in crib

  • I'm not having problems with the crib, but she's doing the same thing in her bouncer. I'm guessing it will just take time for her to get used to it. I've tried it about 6 times now and she always ending up screaming after a few minutes. Keep trying, it may just take some time.

We put the activity mat in the crib for a little bit just to get him comfortable being in the crib.

Edit: activity mat is only in there during supervised periods and pulled out before sleeping/napping.

  • My lo did the same thing until a friend of mine came over and got her to sleep in her crib for two hours! I was like what the heck?!? She rolled up two blankets and put them in the crib horizontal. She then put a big blanket over the two other ones creating a little snuggle area. She then put my lo in between the two rolled up blankets. My lo sleeps around 6 hrs straight in her crib now. She just needed the snuggly feeling in the crib to be able to sleep.
  • Keep trying and do not let her play in the crib. Some babies may take it a bit longer to get adjusted to new sleep arrangement. She must understand that crib time = sleep time. I feel she would sleep better if she feels cozy and secure. We use a baby sleep sack by baby deedee and it it so well made. My baby feel snug and comfortable enough to sleep on her own. By far the best baby item I have come across thus far. My younger one sleeps so much better in it. Would highly recommend!!
Mom secret: put the sack in your bed for a few days so it has your body scent. A familiar smell for your baby to soothe herself during sleep cycles :)
  • We got a crib wedge and my LO started liking his crib. I took it out one night and he did not sleep well so we put it back in and he sleeps great. He does not like to be flat. We also swaddle.
