down syndrome

So at my 18 week ultra sound my doctor told me about a calcium deposit in the babys heart she wanted to keep an eye on. She seemed to not want to tell me what that meant for the baby in order not to worry me. Apparently it could be a sign of down syndrome so she scheduled me for another ultra sound at 28 weeks (today). The calcium deposit is still there. I guess it can be completely normal that it's there and babys with down syndrome tend to have several calcium deposits but mine only has one and could just go away with time. I'm just worried now. All I want as a mom is for my baby to be healthy. I think every single mom wants that. I won't love him any less... i just want him to have good health. Any other moms going through this?

    Didn't you have any genetic testing done?

    My baby has one too. They found it at the 18 week ultrasound and I've had two more ultrasounds since and both show that as the blood vessels in the heart grow, the calcium is being absorbed. I also had the Harmony test done around 12 weeks and the results were normal. They call this spot an echogenic focus and it's a soft marker for DS, not an absolute indication. Healthy babies get them too. If your baby doesn't have any other markers and your doctor hasn't talked about further diagnostic testing with you, then you're probably ok. Wishing you the best!

    The doctor did offer a different sonogram test which I'm getting done next week. I have to drive to another city to get it done (I live in a small town). It just feels like forever away! I didn't get offered a free dna test. Not sure if it's the same thing. I'll ask. Thank you so much for your replies! I do feel a little better about it now. I'll be reading that article now before bed. Thank you!!!

    My baby has the same thing everything I've seen not one has come out with DS they usually worry if you have other markers ! Even my doctor said he's seen this and it's nothing to worry about at all. Apparently it's very common to see in women that are small because their ultra sounds are very clear ! Which mine was very clear !
