Telling older children

im 40 yo pregnant, 6weels 2 days with my third. Boy 16 girl 12 and have a step daughter who lives with us 9. Both my children live with us and visit their dad in holidays. Been a tough few years for them. My new partner (45) and I decided to stop contraception and see what happened....it happened quicker than we thought! :-) nervous about breaking news to my children who are getting use to living with new partner and daughter ( only been a month. We were dating a couple of years though)! I'm very happy but worried about their reaction and different feelings they will have. My daughter already has to share me with 'new' sister. Any ideas on positive fun ways to break the news?? Will wait till 12 weeks to be sure. They could of course be fine...any ideas of ways to tell them be great!

Re: Telling older children

  • We told my step son a few months back that we were going to try and asked him how he felt about being an older brother. He was stoked so when we told him we were pregnant he was really happy. So we kind of prepped him first.

  • Thanks... I wish we had done that!
  • Similar thing for my teenage step son - he really wants a baby brother so hopefully we can deliver on that! We told him we were going to start trying a few months ago so he is prepped but we haven't told him yet, waiting for my 1st ultrasound which is tomorrow so we don't get his hopes up. It's been a bit tricky to hide my symptoms around him cause I've been super sick but hopefully we can tell him this weekend!
  • All the best! We didn't plan so well...oh well. Maybe they will be excited. I think I'll take my daughter out on her own and tell her. Then my son.
