TTC after 35

Just Started Clomid

Hi everyone I am new to The Bump. I'm 36 and have been married one year. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since our wedding a year ago this April. Today I went to my ob/gym and he ordered blood tests, put me on 50 mg of Clomid days 5-9 and the Minivelle patch (0.1mg per day) for days 9-16. My husband has a child from a previous marriage so the doctor wants to check me out first. I have regular cycles so does this mean my chances of a BFP are pretty good now with the meds? Thanks!

Re: Just Started Clomid

  • I just responded to your post on parenting35... I want to encourage you again to see an RE. I really don't like that your dr jumped straight to meds. The other ladies on this board can also give you some great advice based on their own experiences. Going to an RE could save you a lot of heartache and help you find a possible problem and get pregnant faster. A lot of ladies on this board have wished they had seen an RE sooner and not wasted so much time with their OB/GYN. I wish you all the best.

  • Thanks Guennie:). I wanted to update everyone over here that the doc's office just called, all my lab work is normal (he checked ovary function, thyroid, hormone levels, anything related to getting pregnant). He still wants me to continue Clomid then take the Minivelle patch days 10-15. I've got an u/s set up for day 15 to check my ovaries. I will def be looking for a RE in the meantime.

  • Welcome.  I would agree with @guennie to get to an RE and take meds through them because with clomid you really should be monitored.  A RE will send  you for other testing like an HSG and Trans vag ultrasound to make sure their are no other issues going on.  Hormone levels are great to get checked but you want to make sure that your tubes aren't blocked and that there is nothing else going on.  They will most likely send your DH for a SA as well.  Good luck!

  • Hi and welcome!  I'm glad to see you'll have an ultrasound on day 15.  I assume you usually ovulate later than that?  I'm just going to agree with previous posters encouraging you to go to a RE.  Clomid isn't something to mess around with.  Cysts, higher order multiples, and my own experience - VERY thin uterine lining that took a LONG time to recover from - are a few things that can happen.  You really want the specialist to be handling your care.  And though your husband already has a child, a RE will just get all the testing done for both of you and plan your care from there.  Best of luck!
