Last baby?

For those of you who plan for this baby to be your last, what are your future birth control plans? I think I will probably get my tubes tied. Therefore, I am considering whether it may be a good idea to have a CS with this baby instead of surgery shorty after the baby is born. I had a VBAC with my second child, the first was via emergency CS, and I'm having trouble coming to terms with planning a CS when it is not medically necessary and my last delivery was vaginal.

Anyone else in the same or similar position?

Re: Last baby?

  • This is our last one also. It's bitter sweet. I'm not sure what our plan is going to be but if I do end up with a C Section I would like them to just tie my tubes then. I not, then I'm not sure. My DH did however offer to get snipped because I delivered the baby :)

My only concern is hearing from others that some Doctors will not tie your tubes depending on age. I'm 27 and known I want to be done.

  • My husband will be getting the big V soon! Not sure if we will wait until after I deliver or just move forward with it before hand. One way or another, he'll be the one making the permanent sacrifice, lol!

  • I had an iud imbetween #1 & #2 and probably will just go that route.
I don't really know that much about having your tubes tied so can't be that much help with that. Maybe you could plan it if you have to have a cs anyway- breach or some other complication?

This too. We feel our family will be complete with two children. One day, when DH and I were talking about kids, he just offered up that he would go get "snipped" after baby 2 arrives. I've been on BC for a long while so he said he did want me to have to take any more pills or go through another surgery (first baby was a CS) so he'll be taking one for the team ;)

  • This may be our last. I plan on getting an IUD till we decide and then he will get a v. I will have grown 2 babies and pulled them out he can do the pain this time!
  • This is my second and if it's a girl I'm 100% done if it's my second boy then I'm 90% done. Scary!
I'd rather my husband get snipped because it's a lot less invasive so I hear. Otherwise I could just do the birth control pill which was great before.

Also, is it easier to get your tubes tied with a c-section? I know some people that have had them tied and couldn't be happier.
  • @ASalsgiver2010 I know someone who had it done around the same age and the dr did it, but asked her multiple times if she was sure.
  • I had a csection with my first so I am planning on having one again. I will have me tubes tied then.
  • ...but I will say if we weren't 100% sure and I had to go on some kind of BC (not happening, but still just saying) I would do the Implanon or Nuva Ring after I finished breastfeeding.

When we were considering being done with our 2nd, my doc told me I could have a CS at the time of delivery if we ultimately needed a CS, but would have to sign a form indicating such before 35 weeks. After that, they wouldn't let me -- I guess they figure we are not thinking clearly at that point and are over being pregnant. I was 29 at the time.

I heard the recovery is more painful than when you just have a CS alone, but I'm more interested in the convenience aspect. I'm going to have a recovery period regardless of if I deliver vaginally or not, and would rather only have 1 recovery period this year instead of 2.

We are for sure done! Hubby will be getting snipped for sure! I will have delivered 5 babies he can handle it! lol
  • We will be done after 2 of our own (3 with our niece.) We had always felt we were multiple kid kind of family.
  • Yep, it's our last! Going with a scheduled csection and my OB has already agreed to tie things up while she's in there. DH will also be getting snipped within a week of LO's arrival (want to make sure all is healthy and goes well). If there's another one in the future, we'll be contacting news outlets since it will have usurped modern medicine (haha) :)
  • last baby ans unless I have an emergency section my hubby will be getting snipped otherwise I will do it for him lol I got prego on birth control with this one and it will be #4 so I am done! I also wouldn't want a section unless it was necessary. My second was a section and it sucked and the recovery was horrible! So no thankyou and I have never understood how some woman prefer a section are the crazy! lol

I have been thinking about this too. This is my third baby in three years so I really think that we are done. I have been able to give birth to both my girls so I am wondering if I should just go with it and then deal with tubes/vasectomy later. My guy is okay with doing it but I think it might be easier for me to get the surgery than to manage with him getting surgery. (Not trying to be rude but I feel like I might manage better). Anyway, I have been debating on a planned c-section. Obviously I have never done that before so I have no clue how challenging the recovery is... maybe I would just like to skip the delivery?! Not sure what to do.
  • If I have a girl, I think I'm 100% done, but I'm not sure if I want to close up the baby shop permanently or not. If this one's another boy, I may still "try for a girl," or at least leave the possibility open for a 3rd. My husband was the oldest of 4, and I'm the oldest of 3, so I feel like 3 is a good number of kids to have . . . But part of me says let's be done, I don't want to spend ANOTHER two years pregnant or breastfeeding and if we really, really want 3, we can always consider adoption.

  • I'm 28 and this is our fourth pregnancy! First three were boys and can't wait to find out what we are having this time. Boy or girl I'm getting tied soon after my vaginal delivery! I hope I don't have to have a cs! Hubby refuses to get snipped!
