Trying to Get Pregnant

Christmas Baby?

Hi everyone! My husband and I are about to start our first month of TTC, but we just realized that if things go well we may be looking at a Christmas baby. Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on whether we should try to wait another month? Not sure how long it'll take for us since this is our first time, and we are so ready that we don't want to wait another month, but we want to make sure we don't put our child through a lifetime of having to share a birthday with the stress of the holidays. Thanks!

My birthday is the 22nd. It's no big deal. I got presents three days before everyone and almost always had my birthday off from school.
You have a 20% chance of getting pregnant. If it bothers you, then just wait :)

  • Hi there....so i first would say dont wait bc of dates. If you are ready go for it! You cant always plan these these things perfectly. Another thing I will say is my Husbands bday is Jan 25th which he hates bc everyone is so burnt out from Christmas not alot of people end up making it to hus birthday bashes. And think of that warm fuzzy family feeling you get around Christmas thats the best!! We are ttc this month as well after a mc...i am so excited to try again and i am praying for a Christmas baby!! Good Luck
  • We are ttc this month too and could end up with a Christmas baby. DS bday is in early January. I was worried about it being so close but it's no big deal. The one thing I try and do is buy some summer toys for outside myself for his birthday. Then I put them away till it gets warmer so he has some new stuff. This won't work as he gets older---but maybe then he can learn to save some bday money or use an allowance to buy some summer/outdoor stuff. I say start now---you never know how many cycles it could take.

  • I have always had trouble understanding EDD but isn't it 40
Weeks from conception? So that would put an EDD more towards the end of January if you were to concieve now right?

No, it's 38 weeks from ovulation and 40 weeks from the first day of your last period. If you didn't ovulate at cd 14, then go by ovulation time, not lmp. But some docsvare resistant to changing your due date
    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

  • I personally wouldn't wait, but this is my last month to have a 2015 baby so I'm not waiting.

My sisters are both December babies and hate it.

Holy crap I did not know that.  So.. since most people do the "40 week" pregnancy, when someone says they're 8 weeks, it's truly 6 weeks of growing a baby?

Yep! You're about 4 weeks along when you find out you're pregnant. Every cycle you *could* be one week pregnant on cd7. :)

  • don't wait, tax right off for this year and new decubtible for next year.

J/k. Early Dec babu here. My brothers birthday is right before Thanksgiving. Then two weeks later in my birthday, then Christmas and New Years, then my sister's birthday. My mom's is 2 days after Valentines.
    it seriously never bothered us.
Plus the whole only 20% of conception per month. Which means 80% chance it may not even happen.
    either way, good luck.
    Thank God for Raid.

Ha, nah.  10/9/10.  I'm an old married hag.

Long story short, I started this account as an AE cause I felt I had too much real-life info out there on the internet from my time spent on TK, and now I just use it as my main account.  4/26 was just a random date I picked.

Did I accidentally pick your wedding date?

I know about 10 people with Christmas bdays (or thereinabouts). Half love it & half hate it.

You really only have very little control over the actual birth date. If the baby is early (Heaven forbid) you'd have a Turkey. If baby is late you have a New Year's Baby. Honestly, there is always reasons to hate any month for any reason. I can't say any of those are pressing enough for me to avoid.

Then again, I've never cared about this type of thing. I am just happy to be able to carry to term & birth healthy bairns. The month really doesn't make one bit of difference to me.

  • My sister is a Christmas day baby and hates it.  But I am at a point where I wouldn't waste a cycle just for EDD considerations - you never know what could happen as far as the actual birth date or how long it could take to conceive.  If I was in a NTNP stage I might err more on the not trying side, but I'm in full TTC mode so every cycle is important for me right now.

  • My daughter was born on the 28th. So far, it hasn't been an issue. We just had her birthday a few weeks before. You could not even tell it was xmas...except for those people who want to combine and say, "here is her xmas/bday gift." It's annoying...we're also ttc now and looking at another xmas baby. It is what it is. Others dont seem to mind it, so we aren't bothered by it.

  • Hi! I'm new to this as well, and my husband and I are in the exact same position trying to decide whether to start trying now or wait a month and have it more likely to be a February baby!! Thanks for all the tips everyone :)
  • @snyderchelsea0
Thats exactly what we want as well. For work reasons a February 2016 baby would be ideal for us! But we started this month (March) as our first month TTC #1. After reading the posts I got nervous thinking it may take us a longer then I thought to get a BFP. Im learning a ton and plan on starting to temp next cycle. So if it happens sooner, great! If not, maybe a February/March 2016 baby may be in the cards for us!
  • I'm a Christmas baby (12/25/86!) Its really not terrible! The only advice I would give is separate the holidays! Birthday wrapping paper and Christmas wrapping paper!!! It makes a difference in the long run!
  • Aaaand about to have another xmas baby. Make that 2 Christmas babies for me. :)
  • edited March 2015
I'm a December baby and do really hate it. For my birthday people say they will double-up my Christmas present. Then during Christmas, your birthday present fades and you're lucky you get a Christmas present. Lol...additionally - everyone is so spent for Christmas emotionally and financially, my birthday is usually forgotten. But I personally would not wait another month to TTC - it could take you months or years to conceive. Don't hold your life up due to Christmas - it'll always come and go. :)

  • My partner and I were in the same boat this month...but she made a point, that does it really matter if the baby is born at Christmas time as long as it is a happy and healthy baby?  She won that point....I had always envisioned a summer baby, but I am just as happy to have a winter baby, as long as he or she is born happy.  So we're technically in the TWW period with a week left before we can take the 6 day before AF test to see if it picks anything up.

For those of you who hate your Christmas birthdays, it makes me very sad and wish there was a way to change it for you.  That is what made me nervous about trying this month, but I guess we'll just have to strive triple time as hard to make sure their birthday is as memorable as possible.
  • My daughters original due date was December 25th and she ended up coming a month early. Babies decide when they want to show up so don't sweat it.

  • I know my mom complained about her b-day being on Jan 2nd. Everyone is burnt out by that point and her parents would combined her b-day and xmas presents for financial reasons while her siblings would get separate b-day and x-mas presents.

If it was me personally I would wait (as long I was not over 35, if over 35 I would trying every month no matter what), but I am a control freak and I grew up hearing about during family gatherings.

  • When I started TTC I had planned to take April off from baby making to avoid a Christmas baby. Now I'm on month 4 and cycle 3. For no apparent reason my cycle went from 27 days to 42 days the month we started TTC. At this point I'm just hoping for everything to work and planning to love our baby no matter when they decide to arrive. :)
As much as you would like to sometimes you can't control what happens. You could wait and end up with a premie too. If you're ready to start now, start now.
  • Hi! TTC and if successful will have an early December baby. I am enjoying of Jan, fiance is enough of Nov, and baby #1 is end of Sept. So fits right in for oir family! Good luck to all others mom to be hopefuls!
