High-Risk Pregnancy

cercloge

This is my second pregnancy. I have an IC and didn't know about it until I went into labor at 24 weeks my first pregnancy. My doctor did a cercloge to try to stop the labor but it didn't work. I had the baby two days later. So this pregnancy I'm getting a cercloge at 14 weeks. My doctor says it will be successful since my cervix won't be opened yet. I'm terrified I'm not going to carry this baby full term. Has anyone else ever got a cercloge at 14 weeks? If so was it successful? Did you have to go on bed rest? What was it like?

Re: cercloge

  • I had a cerclage placed at 13 weeks after my sonogram showed that my cervix was only measuring 1.8cm (this is my 2nd pregnancy and my first I delivered at 38 weeks 6 days and never had issues).  My doctor didn't put me on bed rest, but did tell me to take it easy for a week after the surgery.  She said that there was always a possibility that I may need bed rest, but it's kind of a last resort measure for her.  She said getting a cerclage placed that early is good and should be successful.  At my 18 week sonogram,  my cervix had actually lengthened to 2.2cm and another sonogram at 21 weeks was measuring 2.5cm.  At 22 weeks, I started progesterone suppositories (you may get a shot since you've had a preterm birth) that I will continue until 36/37 weeks (when I will have the cerclage removed).  I have another sonogram coming up next week and hoping that my cervix has remained at 2.5cm.  I'll be 26 weeks Monday, so I still have a little bit to go, but hopeful!  Good luck :)

  • Thank you! I really needed that reassurance!
  • Hi,
For me, at 13 weeks they discovered my cervix was measuring 2.3 cm, and two days later I got the cerclage. I am now 21 weeks, and at the last check up the cervix measured 3.9 cm!! They did tell me to take it easy the whole pregnancy: no walking, not much standing (up to 10 minutes at a time); limited driving, no heavy lifting (not even my toddler), no exercise (only gentle swimming allowed), and as much rest as possible. I am allowed to move around, but not so much. One week I didn't listen and went on three short walks (about 12-15 minutes of very non-intense walk) - a few days later the cervix shortened a whole 1 cm! So no more walks.
I'd definitely take it easy if I was in your situation. I think it's better to be safe than sorry.
I also have sonograms every two weeks to check the length, and those are very reassuring for me.
    Good luck!
