Pregnant after 35

Pregnancy and seatbelts

One thing that drives me completely crazy in pregnancy is my seatbelt when in vehicles.  Once my belly gets bigger than my boobs (happened many a weeks ago) the shoulder part of the belt slides up because there is nothing to hold it down and it ends up all over my neck.  Since we live far from everything civilized car trips are always long.  Many roads are not very well kept because its the boonies who cares, so all the bumping and shaking just takes that belt around my neck and vibrates and wiggles it until my neck feels raw.  It seems worse in my current vehicle than any other I have had before, must be where the belt is located on the vehicle frame or something.

Anyone else annoyed by their seatbelt?

Re: Pregnancy and seatbelts

  • Me. But I have large breasts so I'm constantly annoyed by my seatbelt, because it rides up to my neck.

A long time ago I saw some kind of thing you could clip onto your belt to keep it across your chest, but didn't really investigate it closely.

I've always wondered how safe it is having the seatbelt across my neck as well, if we had a high speed crash, surely the belt cutting into my neck would be worse than the strain going across my chest.

Sometimes I hold it in place with my hand, but that seems futile in the event of an actual crash.

  • My seatbelt used to ride fairly high anyway, and would also rub the side of my neck. I ended up getting some suede pads that Velcro onto the seatbelt and slide along it so you can position it how you like. Serves 2 purposes - it seems to help the belt ride lower because of the friction of the suede against your clothes & should it ride up higher to your neck, its padded and soft so you don't care. I honestly feel I found them in the automotive section of Walmart, but if not there them you should be able to find one at an autozone or similar store

i wonder the same...either my throat would be crushed or I would be beheaded, I believe.  I also hold mine in place.  But like you think the same..yeah this will be a great solution if there is an accident!
  • Ive totally just taken the chest strap and moved it under my other arm so my armpit kept it down. Its probably not as safe, might not even be legal I don't know. BUt it was too annoying otherwise. I never got pulled over for it, maybe I was just lucky ;)
  • Mine is adjustable next to the door where I can slide the top point up or down.  Before I had a car that did that, I used one of those velcro soft pads to put against my neck.
