Panic attacks, anyone else?

ive always suffered with anxiety but never took any medication, just dealt with it. Pregnancy seems to have made it worse. Between working full time on my feet and taking care of two toddlers, hubby and house, THEN being pregnant, I'm exhausted. Occasional panic attacks throw me into a tail spin. Is this somewhat normal?

Re: Panic attacks, anyone else?

  • Yep. Have had anxiety most of my life. For me I think pregnancy can make
It worse - hormones, more tired than normal, new bodily sensations to worry about etc. I personally find a few things work when I am consistent: exercise, eating well, magnesium and vitamin b complex, yoga, taking time to relax. I think it's quite common to worry x

  • I have also been having them while pregnant, after not getting one for a long time. Like PP said a lot of it is hormones. and she gave great advice! :)
  • I have suffered from anxioty for about 5 years now and for me I am getting anxious about if baby is okay and about my safety (getting scared that someone's going to bash into bump) I take prosac 20mg one every other day and doc said that's fine x
  • I actually normally have anxiety but aside from being over dramatic I haven't had any panic attacks or extreme anxiety during my pregnancy which is extremely weird.  I do have dr permission to take xanax if needed but I'm only prescribed .25mg so it's a very small dose.  I was on lexapro earlier in my pregnancy which my dr also said was fine, but I chose to get off it.
  • Along these lines, I have been having crazy dreams about being in a tsunami/tidal wave scenario. These dreams are pretty frequent, and  that seemed pretty strange to me, so I looked up what these types of dreams typically mean. Basically, the internet said I am panicking about a major life changing event, and the large wave of water represents my emotions. So.... subconsciously, yes, I am having panic attacks haha.
  • I have been diagnosed with panic disorder and when i got pregnant, the panic attacks are worse. I am currently on xanax .25 mg and i only take it when needed, usually 2-3 times per week.
  • My anxiety is ALWAYS worse when I'm pregnant, this is my third pregnancy and so far it is the worst anxiety yet. So bad that I will wake up at night having anxiety attacks :/ You're definitely not alone!
  • I had 2 panic attacks at the very beginning. It stinks!
  • As soon as I told my therapist and psychiatrist I was pregnant, they signed me up to see a pregnancy psychiatric specialist because they KNEW things were going to get worse, and they weren't sure if the medications I was on would affect me the same way as they had been, so it's definitely common to see an increase in symptoms. I'm on daily doses of both fluvoxamine (specific to OCD) and abilify.

  • You're not alone. I've always had anxiety but was blessed with never having a panic attack, until I got pregnant.  I didn't even know I was pregnant yet when I had my first attack, which was awful.  Sometimes I get them when I'm not doing something even remotely stressful! What is that about? Maybe asking your doctor for helpful tips? Hope it gets better! They're not fun at all!
