Oh the pelvic discomfort....

Mine started Saturday night....extreme discomfort, sort of like a bruising feeling in my pelvic bone...my little dude favors my left side and there is definitely more discomfort on that side too! I was literally waddling around the house because I couldn't close my legs and then I tried sitting...yeah, not fun! The only relief I have found is to lay down and rest a pillow between my legs. Any other suggestions!? Are you experiencing this too!?! How early did you start feeling the stretching pain?

  • Hello.. yes ive been getting this quite bad.. depends on the position of your baby .. if he prefers it down there.. theres nothing you can do lol.. if you start to get concerned .. a little phone call to your midwive or obs can put your mind at ease.. I find if you sit forward like perched they tend to move as they get squashed.. works for me .. hope everything goes smoothly and you get some rest at least x

  • Yeah I have been experiencing this too, I'd say for about a month now (I'm 25w2d). Some days are better than others. I agree with PP, sometimes if I sit up straight that helps. Sometimes walking around helps too... But sometimes it makes things worse. I've basically come to the conclusion that I just need to suck it up haha

  • Yes- my hip and pelvic pain has been much worse with this pregnancy.  This little boy is sitting very low and seems to be applying constant pressure.  It's making sleeping very uncomfortable.  Just a few more months!  We can muscle through it ladies.

  • Hips hips hips, feels like my hips are going break and dislocate.. Making it hard to sleep on either side
  • Omg, I didnt know so many women felt that. I'm a little over 25 weeks and my pelvic pressure started around 20 weeks. It is 24/7 and nothing I do helps, it hurst so bad! Dr suggested a belly band, I found it does not help with the pressure down there. I'm just in pain any time I move my legs (getting in and out of the car is the worst) i'm having a boy and all is good with the pregnancy,I just have to suck it up ;)
  • I'm so glad I came across this post! I've been looking this up all morning. I'm 22 weeks and the pain started probably a week ago! Is it true boys like to sit low?
  • So glad to see I'm not alone in this! My little man loves to sit so low too! The pressure and achyness is SO uncomfortable and painful at times!! I'm 25 weeks and 1 day and I've been feeling this way since about 20 weeks but it's kicked up a notch last couple weeks! I keep wishing he'd move up a little although I'm sure once they are up by our rib cage and we can't breathe in a few weeks we'll all be wishing they would go back low again lol!
  • I have been feeling this too! This is my second pregnancy and so true it is so different! I'm having a girl and she likes to be low! It feels like bruising inside of my vagina somewhere! I feel the pain when standing or walking . Anyone else experiencing similar ?
  • I have bad hips to begin with due to playing sports my whole life so my pain has been horrible due to little girl sitting low. The doctor had me go to physical therapy and I was able to get a compression belt that helps hold my hips. This also helps a bit with my pressure on my lower front because the belt sits under my belly and gives a little lift. I know they have compression belts for pregnancy if that's an options for some. I've just started the belt yesterday but it did help when earring it.

Yes! This is how I've been feeling. It was worse the past two weeks and is finally a little better this week. I'm 27w + 4d now. Nothing helped me except to sit in a recliner and recline my upper body. Good luck!
  • Yes.yes.yes. 28 wks 5 days and it feels like my pelvic bone wants to split near the pubis symphysis. I also have a inguinial hernia, so that doesn't help much. I have a back brace to use during pregnancy that is supposed to take the pressure off. With this being my 4th, not much helps but staying off my feet. Good luck to you. ;)

  • My goodness! I was ready to blame my hubby ! Haha 3 more long months for me! I am 26 weeks and 5d!
  • My hips are horrible! I sit on an exercise ball for about a half an hour before I go to bed and it seems to help. I don't actually know any real exercises to do on it, I just sort of roll it around lol. I never expected this crazy hip pain!
  • Sounds like my little man. He loves to lay on my left side and low. I am a nurse and I work nights.. usually by the end of my 12 hours I am waddling around the hospital in pain. He loves to lay there though. Usually if I can lay down on my back with a pillow under my left side for a minute he will wiggle around and ease up some. Then I am fine and can do what ever I need to go do.
  • Yes, add me to the pelvic pain boat too! I've got 2 little girls squished in here and it hurts! If I walk a lot or stand for too long I'm waddling like a duck. Thankfully lying down helps and sleeping with a pillow between my legs.
  • I was having severe pelvic pain...felt more like my crotch was splitting open, especially when putting on pants, climbing stairs, anything that separated my legs. A few visits to the chiropractor and I was a new person! I highly recommend a chiropractor for these issues! It's definitely not a fun thing to deal with.

  • I have been having major discomfort by my left leg from pressure for about two weeks and now the whole area down there is feeling it. I teach preschoolers with special needs and the little tables and chairs ( which I have never had problem with in 12 years) are driving me crazy. I have to sit on the floor when working with my kids at the table. And the up and down doesn't help either. With the last two weeks one of my kids behaviors have escalated and he is climbing on every piece of furniture. I had to call the doctor yesterday bc I'm worried all of that is making the pressure worse. Hoping I don't have to work all the way to June.

I'm getting it too, have done off and on since about 12 weeks. It's mostly when I sit down on the tube and at home after a day of sitting behind a desk. It's embarrassing how I wince in public when I sit down! Still it's better than the back pain I get when I stand for too long (which is not very long at all!)
  • I've been noticing a lot of pressure on my pelvis lately, probably the last week or so (I'm currently 25wk, 3). This is my 3rd baby and feel like I'm noticing it more this time around....

I totally get you! I've been getting pelvic pain since about 14 weeks, at first it scared me so I went to the ER to get checked out because I thought it might be a miscarriage. The ER doc and my Doc all say it's perfectly normal, which knowing it's normal doesn't help the extreme discomfort go away :| neither had tips to help with it either! The only tip my Doc had was a hot water bottle, so you could try that!

For me, the stairs are a torture device. So is walking in general, but especially the stairs! I've found keeping my legs together while getting out of bed and/or rolling over helps with the excruciating pain of getting out of bed and/or rolling over, sleeping with a pillow between your legs definitely helps, and I've found swimming is a great form of less painful exercise! Also sitting down when possible helps too. The belly belt really helped with my friend's pelvic pain, but it didn't really help with mine. The only thing that helped with mine is resting with my feet up (and swimming because it allowed me to stretch and move with less pain).
  • The thing I found that helps me the most with this is to sit on a yoga ball it helps stretch the muscles.
  • My Ob told me to wear pregnancy support garments during the day. It's uncomfortable but it works :)

I started having pretty severe pelvic pressure and pain when I was about 17 weeks. I asked my doctor and she said it was normal to have more pain with a second pregnancy... It's the worst after standing or doing anything remotely active. I've given up sex because it's too painful.

ETA my doctor said I have pelvic congestion. It could take months after I give birth for it to go away if it goes away at all. If it does go away there's a chance it will come every month with my period.
