Bells Palsy, anyone?

Hey ladies! Has anyone had Bells Palsy before? I had a bout in July 2012 which caused permanent facial paralysis. They say pregnant women in their third trimester are 3x more likely to come down with it. Hoping and praying I dont get it again and that no one here gets it either.Thanks for your input!

    I personally haven't experienced this, but a good friend of mine had this happen when she was about 31-33 weeks along. She just woke up one day with the left side of her face paralyzed, and her OB diagnosed her with pregnancy induced Bells Palsy. That was close to 13 years ago now, and the paralysis has stayed exactly the same...no better, no worse. She's had 2 pregnancies since then, and hasn't had any additional incidents of Bells Palsy, either while she's been pregnant, or not. I'm sorry to hear that you've had to experience this, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't develop it again! Wishing you a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy! :)

    No experience here either but I wanted to add that I hope this pregnancy goes smoothly for you with no other incidents like that.

    Sorry to hear that. my cousin had it when she carried her twins which is why they took her at 32 weeks. Hers eventually went away and she did not develop it during her next pregnancy.

    Thank you all for your comments. It is s vety difficult thing to go through, but being positive makes a WORLD of difference! Glad to hear that no one else in the community has been affected, but if it happens to anyone, please reach out for support. :) Thank you for being great friends to those who you know that have had it...it's what they need!

    Not quite the same, but I have a nerve disease where I get a "pressure" palsy which can look similar to Bells Palsy. I've been lucky so far that baby has not found her way to sitting any odd nerves. But I do need to meet with the hospital anesthesiologist so that they feel comfortable giving me an epidural. Which they'd better!

    @hoodoll82 Im sorry to hear that! Do you have any particular triggers? (My face looks much worse when I'm tired.) Hoping the anesthesiologist gives you what you need.

    @laurendutch thanks for sharing. Ill look it up. There is a girl on YouTube (FitGirl15) that documented her entire experience. Very inspirational, especially for someone like myself with a very serious case. :)

    @kbbtah I just need to avoid putting pressure on areas where nerve bundles are (elbows, wrists, etc). I've gotten it down over the years. I was concerned the weight or placement of the baby might press on nerves in my legs or groin but so far so good!
