Size of coming home outfit?!

I'm a FTM so I'm new at all this! When buying a coming home outfit, do u buy newborn or 0-3 mos?

Re: Size of coming home outfit?!

  • That's a hard one. I had a newborn outfit for my daughter but she swam in it. This time I have all 0-3 month stuff. If you go with newborn I would say just bring a 0-3 just in case baby is bigger. Be prepared for any size.

  • I'm a FTM so I can't speak from experience but I do know babies are all different when they're born. Some come out smaller than expected, some come out larger. Even some babies with the same measurements might fit the same outfits entirely differently for be-it whatever reasoms. I'm bringing outfits of both sizes :) never hurts to be more prepared!
  • @mistyjewel88 I was thinking both sizes too just in case, but I'm ordering it and hateee for the outfit I REALLY wanna bring him home in to be too big or small!!! I've asked friends, and some have said NB and some have said 0-3mos!! I'm so confused!! :)
  • If you're ordering a special outfit you can't return I would get the 0-3 month outfit. I'd hate to be stuck with an outfit that baby could never wear. At least if it's too big they will eventually grow into it. If it's too small it will make nice wall decor but that's about it.
  • If you get a birth weight estimate then I would go off of that. Most babies when they are bornn can fit into newborn. Unless you no your gonna have a 10 pound baby then you should be safe getting newborn. 0- 3 is going to be big on a newborn. For me I got to many newborn outfits...they grow out of them so fast. The bigger the better. My daughter tho was in premie clothes....so tiny.

  • Bring one of each? They don't take up much space and by then you should have some clothes of different sizes, lol.
  • I'm bringing 1 preemie and one newborn 0-3 months. My DD was just under 6 lbs at full term and my DS was 6 weeks early but had he been full term he would have weighed around 8lbs according to growth charts... So I'm just covering all bases. It sucked with DD to have a super cute sleeper for her that she was swimming in, so this time I'll have something to fit either way. I also don't get fancy come home outfits, I like little cute one pieces from Carters or Gap because I want LO to be comfy ❤️
  • Is there a lot of difference between newborn and 0-3mos?
  • It depends on the brand, I have found at some places they consider 0-3 months newborn size but then at places like the Gap they actually have a newborn size... It's all madness lol, too many variables with each brand. I think you're safe if you have something smaller and something more fitting for a 8-10 lbs, then you should be covered no matter what
  • You can't go wrong with 0-3 but newborn may not fit. My first baby was over 10 lbs so I'm leaving tags on all newborn sized clothes. :)

  • I think it all depends. Some newborn outfits are super tiny. My family is known for big babies so I look at a lot of newborn clothes and think yeah right! I ended up getting a 0-3 for coming home. It doesnt help to pack a few extra outfits just in case.
  • I'm bringing newborn, my dd wore newborn for a while so I'm assuming this one will too

  • We ended up buying 5 coming home outfits. I know!! We sound crazy...

We are team green but I wanted gender specific take home outfits. So we got 2 boy, 2 girl. 1 newborn and 1 0-3 month for each. And then DH found a gender neutral 0-3 that he liked. And it was on sale...so...

We will wash them all and have them ready in the hospital bag. But only end up using one or two. But I feel more prepared having more than necessary. We haven't bought any other clothes for LO yet so I don't feel guilty.
  • Both of my kids fit just fine in newborn so that's what I'm bringing this time. I expect he/she will be around the same size as brother & sister were.

  • Thanks y'all!!! I think I'm gonna order a newborn outfit and bring along 0-3 also!!!
  • I brought a 0-3 month outfit for DS and he was absolutely swimming in it. However, I've heard of newborns who don't even fit into NB size when they're born (and apparently this little girl is humongous says the Dr) so I'm going to bring one of each size for DD this time.
