Fundal Height/measuring ahead question

Hi everyone!
I have a question about measuring ahead on fundal height, and whether it turned out to be normal or a complication like polyhydramnios for you all.

Currently I'm 28 weeks, and my fundal height is measuring 4+ weeks ahead. Since the beginning I've measured ahead, around 14-19 weeks I was a week ahead from 19-23 weeks I was 2 weeks ahead and from 23-26 weeks I was 3 weeks ahead. I don't have GD and I haven't gained any weight since becoming pregnant (which is good, I am overweight). I didn't have fibroids on the 20 week ultrasound either. Since my measurements have been growing pretty fast, I measure ahead about one week more for each month of pregnancy, my doctor is worried. So my question is, for those of you measuring ahead, is it excess fluid? Is it a big baby? Is it just the baby's position? From your experience, what caused you measuring ahead?

Re: Fundal Height/measuring ahead question

  • Hi @canmu, while I don't have personal experience, I recall two recent threads about this exact issue that might provide you with some information from fellow members. If you use the search function on this site and type in "fundal" you will see threads from Mar 10 and Feb 27. Hope this helps!

I will second @hoodoll82 for you to go check those old threads, but also add that many doctors don't even measure this (like mine). And the jury is out on the meaningfulness of this statistic. If the doctor actually has a concern he will order an ultrasound since fundal height determines basically next to nothing except that your belly has grown x cm.
