STMs that didn't take birth classes.?

Did everything go ok without taking any birthing classes.? I don't think I'll be able to, but don't know if everything will go smoothly without them, although it's labor, nothing's smooth...lol

  • I never took a class and this will be my second. Your body naturally knows what to do. I feel classes are a waste of time. I had my daughter quick and no meds. Good luck.

  • I was wondering the same thing... I am a STM and I didn't take birthing classes with my first but ended up having a CS (failure to dilate) this time around I'm hoping for a VBAC and wondered if taking a class would be helpful...

  • I didnt take any classes and just listened to my nurse. Figured i wouldnt remember what i learned once i was in the middle of labor anyway

    All went well!
  • This will be my second and I'm not planning on taking any classes. DS was born just 3 years ago, so everything about labor and delivery is fresh in my mind.  And definitely don't need a refresher on any of the baby care stuff like swaddling, bathing, etc.

  • I didn't take a class last time and will not this time either. Don't stress if you are not able to take them.
  • You could skip the class but I would still do the hospital tour. That was much more helpful for me. It helped with packing, check in, and all sorts of planning, which in turn helped with a lot of anxiety.
  • We took a bf class today and found it super informative. I didn't take any classes 14 years ago but I was 16 and thought I knew it all. I also didn't bf with my first child. I'm glad we took the class and I'll be signing us up for others. There's some things I feel like a ftm with and others I remember from the first go around.
  • Didn't take any classes when FTM and now that it's the second time around I still plan on...not doing classes. Pointless. You go to the hospital and just give birth right? :)
  • I'm not taking birth classes but I do want to a breast feeding class in April since I plan to breastfeed this time around!
  • I took the class and found it very informative. I didn't even know how to change a diaper so the class helped me a lot. If you know the baby basics, then it might be OK to skip the class. They said in the class that a nurse will be there to guide you.
  • I've also never taken birthing classes and this my third. I'm in a new city this time around so I'm still going to do the hospital tour since many hospitals are a maze to get thru and want to see what my hospital provides (diapers, pads and such)

didnt take any classes, but we did do the hospital tour. I followed what the nurses and the drs told me to do and that was good enough. everything was totally fine.
  • I am a FTM.... I'm not taking birthing classes but we did a hospital tour and a child/infant CPR and first aid class. I highly recommend the CPR class- definitely gave me and DH some peace of mind about how to handle things if DS chokes, stops breathing, etc.
  • If you don't have time for a class I highly recommend mentally preparing yourself through podcasts. I've really liked "Preggie Pals" and "Easier Healthier Birth." They've covered a lot of the same topics as the birthing class I'm taking. Have your partner listen to them too so they can support you through labor.
