You could really do it at any time now. I think I went around 35 weeks with my first. It was a group tour and all the basics were covered like where to check in, what a delivery room looks like, where recovery would be, and in the end you were able to meet with the anesthesiologist to hear all about epidurals and ask as many questions as you like. They also did an informational session in the beginning that told you when you could be admitted (how far apart your contractions are and for how long).
You also might consider starting interviewing/meeting with pediatricians. When I called for this appt, the first available one wasn't for a month and a half. It ended up being like a week and a half before I was due. That kinda freaked me out.
My hospital has specific times so you will want to check to make sure you don't miss it. my hospital is the first Monday of every month... So I have april or May to go.
I would get it scheduled now (keep in mind that I am the poster Child for type A personality though). I had mine through my child birth class this weekend and both brought up questions that I want to talk about with my doctor at my next visit. I also wanted to get it done early because baby is coming on his timeline and not mine so I want to be prepared. Also, not realizing that it was part of the childbirth class, I called to schedule a tour of the hospital a month ago and they were booked (I am currently 29 weeks).
I agree with @lovethatcolosun about interviewing pediatricians. Get that scheduled too. Again baby's timeline doesn't always follow our timeline. And also the hospital I am delivering at prefers for your physician to check the baby out before baby can be discharged.
Mine is scheduled for May 16th. I'll be 36 weeks. I'm taking three classes through my hospital, starting the last week in April through the third week in May (two of them are two session classes). We weren't given any timeline as to when to take them, so we figured we try and get them far enough from the EDD to have time, but not so far ahead we'd forget everything we learned!
I had two hospitals to choose from so I did the tours early so I could choose the hospital and start taking a few classes at that one. I went one each tour between 25 and 27 weeks. I am so glad that we did because if I had put it off it would have stressed me out! Now that it's out of the way and we have our hospital chosen, it feels good to have one more thing off my to-do list!
I'm of the abnormal group because with my DS, my tour was cancelled, but we were getting close to my due date and they couldn't reschedule. So, I pretty much asked should I go to ER first or L&D and flew by the seat of my pants from there. Lol my mom worked in L&D for years and my sister is a L&D nurse, so I felt like I pretty comfortable with the whole thing.
