Re: GD Weekly Check In: Pi Day version

  • My numbers have been kind of high this week, but my mom had surgery (she's fine), I had a grad school midterm, and my husband's was out of town. I'm hoping that they will go down enough that the doctors don't put me on meds when I call in my numbers. Now that the weather is finally decent, hopefully the walks will help as well. I took my son to the zoo today and my number was 72 after lunch so that's a good sign.
We had an awesome day at the zoo! The animals were active and surprisingly, it wasn't too crowded!

  • I haven't done a check in yet, but I've got GD. I'm 32 weeks, 2 days and just finally got my testing supplies last week after my dr office forgot/failed to set up the management class and call in the prescription correctly. So far my numbers have been all over the place. I'm worried they'll put me on meds at my appointment on Monday because even my morning fasting number has been high. I keep hoping they'll stabilize but so far no luck.

What is your evening snack? Play around with your snacks a little. How high are your fasting numbers?

    Welcome!

Welcome! I'd also add to make sure you're pacing your meals. Don't wait too long or skip snacks or you'll overcompensate and your numbers will spike! Hang in there.

I'm not doing too badly this week ... Just eight more weeks to go!
  • Wednesday my snack was a cup of yogurt and a small Apple with peanut butter which falls in the 2 starch/carb count category I was given. The number was in range Thursday morning. Thursday I had celery sticks and a small Apple with peanut butter and fasting Friday was 105. Friday I had cheese and crackers and this morning it was 105 again. I had carrot sticks tonight. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I was already evenly spacing meals and snacks and watching carbs based on recommendations from diabetic friends and this board while waiting for my nutrition class to finally happen.

I'm just frustrated. The same exact lunch that was fine on Thursday spiked me to 135 today (I was told to keep it under 120 after meals and under 95 fasting). This had been the smoothest, easiest pregnancy ever until about 3 weeks ago when the shit hit the fan. :(. Oh well, just about 7 and a half weeks until it will all be over and I can meet my little princess. Then the struggle will be worth it.
  • My doctor, diabetes lady, and nutritionist said fasting 95 and under. 1 hr after meal is 140 and under and 2 hrs after meal is 120 and under. I don't know if your testing at 1 hr or 2 but they also told me that if your 1 hr is higher test again at 2. After 2 hours and it's still a little high then that's the sugars that go to the baby. My 3 hour was weird. My 1st hour was 270. And then the 2nd and 3rd was at fasting levels.
  • I went last Wednesday to my nutritionist, I won't go again until the 25th of this month. My fingers have gotten use to getting pricked all the time:). How's everyone's weight? I have lost some and I'm kinda worried. I know the restricted diet keeps your weight stagnant, at least that's what Google said.

With my first, I lost a couple pounds when I was diagnosed. Then i didn't gain anymore the rest of pregnancy. This baby, I have gained zero since the beginning.

Ask your doctor if you are concerned, though. Everyone is different.

  • I'm up three pounds from my last weigh in. But I'm also coming off of a small vacation where we ate out more than we normally do. My doctor didn't seem concerned when he weighed me. The only one who has said anything about not gaining more weight "so it's easier to lose afterward" is the dietician. I know she's looking out for the GD but that irritated me because my weight has pretty much been on track and the baby is measuring appropriately for her check-ins. I'm active overall. I'm growing a life not thinking about my figure right now or in a rush to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes. Sorry for the added rant; it really irked me. In any case, I have a weigh in later this week so we'll see what the scales say.
  • I know how you feel, I have been bombarded by senseless comments from my doctors ever since I was diagnosed with GD. Eventhough I gained 5 pounds throughout this pregnancy, my doctor did not express any concern! Also, when I asked for an ultrasound to make sure that the baby size was fine her response was: I don't think it's necessary, even if we find out that he is the normal size what's going to happen? Are you going back to eating normally? I swear at that point I could've slapped her! Sorry for being concerned about my baby's health! I don't think they know how hurtful they are being.
