Anti-nausea meds

So, I've always assumed anti-nausea meds would only be prescribed if you were frequently vomiting... Do doctors prescribe them purely for the nausea... I'm 17 weeks and so tired of being nauseous all the time!! It takes away any motivation/desire to do anything! With my other two... The nausea magically went away when I entered the second trimester.... No such luck yet!

I've tried eating, drinking, mints, tums, saltines. Saltines are the closest to actually helping, but it doesn't last long.

Re: Anti-nausea meds

  • I asked my doctor for some back in the first trimester. He prescribed Diclectin. Works amazingly. I'd definitely recommend asking for it.

  • I use diclegis. It has a little pregnant women on a white pill.
  • Yes. I first got Zofran because I was so nauseated. Later the vomiting starting but luckily I already had meds.

  • My doctor had me combine 12mg of unisom with 25 mg of B6 every night, and increase the unisom to 25mg if I was still nauseated. It was a lifesaver for me.

Mine look the exact same with a slightly different name.
  • Zofran is commonly used and works wonders. Yes-many will prescribe just for feeling nauseous
  • Zofran worked a little but because I took it they now want to do an extensive ultrasound of my baby's heart to make sure it didn't cause any problems this coming from my OB so I would recommend just trying saltine crackers, salted sunflower seeds, seven up and gingerale if you like that, those are only things I could handle for a week or two
  • I second the unisom b6 combo! I have been on that since New Years and I feel SO much better! I was literally living in our bathroom because I was throwing up so much before I started the unisom. It's cheap, it's over the counter, and it's safe! Being on Zofran scared me just a little because of the cleft lip, club foot risk.
  • Diclegis and emetrol. I also use preggo pops. My nausea pretty much went away, but those meds and lollies really helped me.
  • I have also been on the unisom, B6 combo in addition to pepcid, all before bed. I have found it to help but continue to be sick in the am and at night. I worry about the unisom bc if I do not take it one night I struggle to sleep and I am super sick for the next day. I have been doing this for 3 weeks. I think the addition of the pepcid has helped a lot though.
  • FYI to the gals saying they take Unisom (doxylamine is the active ingredient) and B6, these are the what make up Diclegis, just a generic OTC form. To the original poster, check with your healthcare provider. You don't have to be throwing up before they'll prescribe something.

  • If you want natural go nauzene! Works good!
  • Mine does! I would call and ask for sure, I hate feeling nauseous
  • Promethazine! I'm halfway through my first pregnancy, and this has saved my life. I was violently throwing up at random times and had no desire to eat. So I wasn't gaining much weight, in fact I lost weight my first couple months. I also work full time so I really needed something that would last for long periods of time. It seems to last me all through work if I take it before I leave for work. I suggest talking to your OB and at least asking if that's an option for and explain how it's changed your activity level and your eating habbits. You say you haven't thrown up, but if you've been gagging and nothing is coming out because you haven't been eating that's just as serious.
