knitting

Any of you ladies knit? My sister in law is going to teach me on Thursday while my hubby is in surgery any good easy begginers patterns for a little girl out there?

Re: knitting

  • My grandmother taught me a couple of Summers ago...I started with a scarve. It's still halfway unfinished :/

  • Crocheting is much easier and faster. Im with @laurendutch ...never finished what gma taught me (knitting)!

I knit. Right now I am working on a pink and grey dragon (stuffed animal) for a friend and a baby blanket for my little girl. If you are looking for free patterns, I would suggest checking out knittingpatterncentral.com. They have free patterns that range from super easy to pretty complex. It isn't the easiest website to navigate but they have some good stuff. Good luck!

  • I've done both crocheting and knitting. Crocheting is MUCH easier. I guess that's just my opinion. But I think it's easier to learn and the patterns are easier to read. I also enjoy crocheting a lot more.
  • yes! i love to knit! i'm working on the summer sky blanket from what to knit when you're expecting by nikki van de car. great book if you're interested!! i had my heart set on knitting the tutu and a couple of the beautiful dresses in that book, but alas, i'm having a boy! :) another great resource is craftsy. you can learn how to knit in just a few lessons with their "knit lab" class. their "knit in the round" class i learned how to knit a beautiful headband with a flower and sized it down for a baby.

  • I've been knitting since I was 12 (so, 11 years now) and I love it! It's definitely a skill that takes a long time to develop though. I personally think it's easier than crocheting, but that may be because I learned to knit first and have much more experience with knitting than I do crocheting. If you're just starting, I would actually recommend using a kids' knitting book when you're first starting - the instructions tend to be easier to understand than in the adult knitting books. The one made by Klutz is especially good. I'd also recommend that you start with projects like washcloths and scarves - they're not baby-oriented, like you're looking for, but they'll be good practice until you're really comfortable with the stitches.

The baby knitting book that I'm currently using is  Baby Knits by Lois Daykin - most of the patterns are pretty advanced (some have even been challenging for me!), but, with practice, a new knitter might be able to handle the cushion and blanket pattern that is in it. Good luck!
