Play yard opinions

Hi all, we are planning on using a Pack n Play in lieu of a crib for a while. I think I'm fine with the base model (the travel one) but have people gotten the one with the changer/napper attachment? Is it worth the extra cost? I've heard lots of conflicting opinions. Some say the attachment is a pain to remove when you actually want the baby to sleep in the main bassinet part. I also don't think I'd use the changer much. But that model does seem a bit sturdier than the base model. Thoughts? Thanks in advance?

Re: Play yard opinions

  • Ours came with it. It seemed really sturdy in the store. I haven't put it together yet though. I will say, I think I'll like the bassenet for the first month or so because I won't have to bend over as far to pick the l/o up. The changer is just an added bonus. I doubt it'll be used very often.

  • Our PnP came with all the changer/ napper, mobile attachments... and they are all still in the dresser drawer where I stashed them.  Never been used.  It's just such a pain to take on and off when you want to move the thing.

  • Mine also has the changer on it. I don't think its going to make much of a difference in the very beginning, but I'm thinking that as baby grows and gets heavier it may realize its potential. Not way heavier, obviously, cause I think the limit is like 30 pounds, but once you start using it as an actual pack n play instead of temporary sleeping apparatus (which is also what I'm gonna do) is when we may be glad for it.

  • We are going to be leaving the pack and play at my mother's house for when we visit, so we went with the one with all the attachments so we have everything we need there. The one we chose is graco and the bassinet insert comes out and can be used as a bouncer as well which is nice.
  • We have the Chicco pack in play, and has the changer on top. I loved the changer. It's not a pain to remove, as it just sits on top.
  • Awesome, thanks everyone!
  • Did y'all have multiple pack in plays? I'm thinking:
One for our home and travel, and one for parents' house in another state?
I think this may be excessive though.

I kept mine at my parents but now that we moved into a bigger home I really need one for my downstairs and another for my parents.....I will just use whichever one is easier to fold up for travel.
  • I just found out my mother in law has one from an earlier grandchild - so one less to lug there! Yay! I have considered buying one for my moms house. Although it feels silly as its intended to fold up and travel...
  • My MIL (lives in town) had one at her house from my nephews. My mom (out of state) had one given to her from another Grandma friend. And then she found one for $40 at Costco and bought it. It was nice not to have to pack it when traveling to her house. With my twins if we were going somewhere overnight we would just borrow MILs.

I never used the bassinet/diaper changing attachments. But I did use the adjustable higher level option when they were newborns.
  • My mother has one from DD1 with a changer on top at their house and it came in really handy. Not that my parents are old but being able to have something higher for her to use to change diapers in instead of the floor etc was nice.

For this baby. 8 years later. I'm getting the 4moms breeze. We'll use it in our room as a bassinet and then a PnP later on. DH is kinda being sneaky about the Halo bassinet lately though. Asking lots of questions. I think he may surprise me with it :)
