Help, glucose test results a little high

I didn't eat anything before the test. I didn't eat anything past 12am and had my test at 12pm. And my results were a little high. Does this mean I have gestational diabetes? I haven't talked to my dr yet because by the time I got home and listened to his message which said he had the results of my test the dr office was closed. And it's closed all weekend. I did have my grandma look online and she said the results were a little high. Anyone deal with this? Is there a chance it's a false positive?

They will probably just have you do the 3 hour test now. I wouldn't worry until the doctor lets you know the results and what it means.

I know you're worried but coming online to a site of non medical professionals won't help. Promise.

There are multiple threads (check out high risk) where results have been "a little high" and they've done the next stage and passed. There are others where they haven't. This is something ONLY your doctor can answer .

As they are closed and clearly not banging your door down to get you to hospital, don't worry about it for now. Eat well over the weekend and wait til you can speak to someone.

I'm in the same boat, and have to do the 3 hour test next week. Approximately 40% of people fail the first screening and only 2-5% fail the 3 hour challenge. The first test isn't very accurate, but it does narrow down the people who have to take the second test. Don't worry. Eat and live normally until you get your results from the 3 hour test. There are some people who have such high results from the one hour test that they are diagnosed then with gestational diabetes without having to take the 3 hour test. You're not in that boat, so as hard as it is try not to worry. Your doctor isn't so you shouldn't be either.

Can I ask you what your results were? Mine was 138 and they told me they like it below 135. I couldn't see my doctor yesterday because he was on vacation but the doctor I did see wanted me to take the 3 hour test. The nurse said my doctor does not require it unless your results are over 140

Typically the standard is your results should be under 140. Some physicians choose to make the cut off lower. For instance if you doctor decides to make the cut off 120, then if you tested 120 or over he or she will have you come back to the office for a 3 hour test. The first one you did is just a screening tool. It is not a test for GD, but a screening tool to weed those out who do not need the true 3 hour test. The doctors that do choose to make the cut off lower than 140 are doing so so that they do not miss anyone else who has GD. I would not worry too much until you take your 3 hour test. I would recommend that you do watc your sugar and carb intake until that time, as if you do have GD you do not want to do anything to risk LOs health. With that said if at your screening your results came back greater than say 160, your doctor may choose not to give you the 3 hour test but go ahead and make the diagnosis of GD and treat you accordingly.

For the 1 hour I was 170. Got to skip the 3 hour and just go to checking my blood 4 times a day since this is my second time having it. You probably have it, most pregnant women get it. It is really not fun but with diet or meds it can be controlled. Enjoy what foods you want now until you talk to your doc.... one word of advice for all gestational diabetes look at atkins bars and shakes. Pretty good and low carbs.

I'm not asking anyone for medical advice I'm simply asking what others have experienced because I was really upset and all my friends who have had babies all passed the first test and told me since I fasted seriously I probably have GD.

I just called her and asked what a little high meant and she said 135. I'm not sure the standard at my drs office is

If you're at 135 I wouldn't worry. The upper end cut off is 140. Your doctor must have a lower cut off.

I fasted on the first one and failed.  When I did the two-hour, I passed.  So no - this does not necessarily mean you have GD, which only 4% of pregnant women develop.

I would say they will just have you do the three hour test in which you will fast from midnight until after your test. My one hour results were 136 and had to be 134 or below. I passed all four tests of the three hour one though.

I just found out that I failed my glucose screen that I did today and the doctor says I have to go in tomorrow and di the dang 3 hour test. :(

I'm not too worried. I exercise, I eat pretty good most of the time and I'm in good shape. The only thing that scares me is that my mom had GD with my youngest brother.

I guess i'll find out tomorrow.

Dang I feel bad, my one hour glucose was horrible compared to everyone else on here. My glucose fasting was 250, I also had to wait a whole weekend because they called me on Friday and I missed the call. It drove me a bit crazy because they didn't leave me a detail msg so I got worried all weekend long. I was really upset that I have it because I really did eat healthy most the time and I'm a walker, but I am learning to accept it. But don't worry too much, it doesn't do too much good if you did. If you have it, then you have to see a specialist and they will tell you what to do. You might not even have it so just wait until they tell you otherwise. I heard many pregnant get them and sometime it's not even their fault, just the way your body react to pregnancy hormones. It's gonna be ok, good luck hun!

Thanks @duynguyen51 mine came back at 164. She said it was supposed to be under 139. I failed this test with my son but passed the 3 hour.

    Crossing my fingers for tomorrow.

It turns out my results were read wrong. And I'm actually at 150 just heard this from my doctor at my last appointment so now I'm taking my 3 hour one Monday! I wish you all luck.

Your actually not supposed to fast for the one hour, it can cause you to have rebound hyperglycemia. I'm sure you'll do fine

I failed the one hour and have to go in for the 3 hour on Monday. Thought I was in the clear as I was told I would get the results this past Monday or Tuesday. Instead I got the call yesterday afternoon, Thursday. So scared. I admit I have been eating a lot of sweets and carbs and I also am a carrier of hyperinsulinism. I was working out a lot until I started having back issues and now I am very swollen in my face, hands, and feet. I am now 39 weeks. Praying me and my baby are going to be ok. Eating like a saint this weekend.

I don't eat very well either. I eat a lot of carbs and sweets. But I was still a bit surprised I failed.

My result was 98 and the nurse told me I was on the high side and the doc may want me to take the 3 hour.. weird :(

    Hmm

I had a 141 which my doctor considered one point failing. He's very laid back and told me not to worry. I worried. Debated pushing for the three hour but kept getting brushed off. I finally borrowed by friend's glucometer and measured my blood sugar every morning- 65-72 every day I measured. I'm hopeful that if there were an issue I wouldn't be able to get that reading.

Don't worry just yet! I had my one hour and my results were super high (170) and the nurse told me I had to take the 3 hour one and I was so worried and thought I had GD for sure but then I passed the 3 hour one and all my levels were normal! Just a fluke the first time! Try not to worry!
