Spotting!!!!!!!

hi everyone, I am 5w 3d pregnant and am freaking out I just starting spotting last night and this morning not a lot but 4 months ago at the same time that was how my miscarriage started with very light spotting, I am having back pain and light cramping, I am terrified!!! Anyone else have spotting and still okay???

Re: Spotting!!!!!!!

  • While my first comment is to chat with your doc and maybe with your concerns over past experiences have a quick visit. For me I have had light spotting from early on with some light pink spotting after bowl movements because of constipation and discussed it with my ob and she advised the light is ok based on the circumstances surrounding the occurrences vs just random unexplained - plus I have a retroverted uterus so the the constipation issue won't be going away any time for me so I've added foods to help as well as Metamucil. Everyone is different and I was kind of freaked out about the spotting before talking with my doc and realizing that some based on certain things is explainable but to be aware and try and prevent (i.e. bring down workout intensity if spotting after or work on constipation to make it easier for me to go to avoid spotting) - I am 6 weeks and 3 days btw. Just because you are spotting now doesn't mean its the exact same as before but talking with the doc and understanding why is probably the best next step.

  • I would also say definitely check with your doc based on your past experience. My personal anecdote: This is my first pregnancy and I have had some cramping and light pink/brown spotting off and on since week five. I'm 7w3d and as far as I know all is still well (haven't had any spotting in about 5 days and have tons of other symptoms- nausea, moodiness, sore boobs, starving, tired-that make me think there's still a lot going on in there haha). I have a friend on her third pregnancy, no MCs and she spotted through the first trimester with all three :)
  • I haven't had any spotting this pregnancy, but I did with my first, between 5 and 6 weeks. He's totally healthy and the pregnancy was completely free of complications, so it can absolutely be normal. If it gets heavier or is accompanied by heavy cramping or pain, definitely call your doctor. In fact, it never hurts to call, so if that would ease your mind, I would say to do that.
  • Thank you ladies, I am going to give my doctor a call, do you think they would be able to see anything with an ultrasound this early??
  • One thing that helped a lot, make sure you are hydrated! I got a little dehydrated, and it was around that time I saw some spotting. Been good since then and no more issues!

  • I've been really sick the past four days been drinking a ton of water, had a fever, chills, cough, headache, and sore chest! I haven't seen any more spotting yet but have had some cramping and a little back pain (but my back always hurts)

I had an ultrasound yesterday, at 5w2d and they saw both the gestational and yolk sacs. No heartbeats yet, though (I say "heartbeats" bc I'm having twins--which they sound yesterday!). I'm not sure how much an ultrasound can tell you at this point but you would at least know if it's measuring appropriately.

  • Spotting has started again, it's a bright red color, I don't have to much hope after last time. :(
  • Yes several separate occasions of spotting and cramping one night it was brit red when I wiped. I feared the worst bc my last pregnancy ended in mc. My Dr drew blood and did ultrasound on a Friday. Hcg was 1999 only gest. sac on ultrasound. Was told threatened mc. I still had faith. I left the hospital and my dh and I went and bought baby a sweet elephant toy and went home and prayed. Went back on next Thursday. Hcg was 24067 ges sac and yolk sac on ultrasound. Dr said could be mc or too early We will have to wait. Went back next Wednesday and saw little baby with a hb! Measured a week earlier than I had thought. .. Good luck. try to stay positive until you know for Sure! ((((Hugs))))
  • Thank you for sharing, I have been feeling so physically and mentally drained, I have been praying so much, I am just so terrified of losing this baby!!
  • I completely understand. Waiting is excruciating. I will keep you in my prayers. Let me know :)
  • You guys make me feel a less stressed! I'm 6 wks and have had some spotting And was freaking out too! But my nurse reassured me a little spotting is normal.
  • I was in this same boat yesterday!! Had spotting and cramps and went to ER and they said my cervix was "slightly open", then had an ultrasound today and baby was perfect and wiggling and there was no more blood, and they couldn't see an open cervix on the u/s so we're hoping we're all good now!! Don't freak out completely until you know for sure! Stay postive and take it easy!

  • It is like a bloody cervical mucus, sometimes there is nothing and then there is quite a bit!
  • I've had spotting today and freaked out, but I am feeling calmer now. Light brown with some cramping, but it sounds pretty benign. I'll call my practitioner tomorrow just to be safe, though.

I had spotting, very bright red, yesterday at 5/1. They are sending me for an early ultrasound tomorrow at 5/3 and did a blood test yesterday just to see if my levels were climbing properly from my initial blood test at 4 weeks. As terrified as I am I am feeling positive just hearing that my levels are where they are at. I had a friend who bled through her entire pregnancy starting around 5 weeks and has healthy 2 year old twins. Keep as positive as possible. Rest and relax. Good luck. I hope everything turns out well for you

I am 7 weeks 2 days with twins. My doc said spotting is more common with multiples as you have more stuff "rubbing against each other" so who knows! I've had brown spotting for quite a few days but both babies are doing perfectly!

  • Whew... You guys make me feel so much better. After waking up this morning and noticing some spotting my mind obviously went right to miscarriage. I started crying and researching to see if that is what it likely was and texted my husband (maybe not the best idea, he's a worrier haha), but it sounds like it's pretty common. What I did read was that because there is a lot going on in your body, there are different parts that are expanded because of hormones and sometimes sex or a pelvic exam (anything that pokes and prods down there) can make you have some spotting due to elevated blood levels. It has nothing to do with baby being unsafe! Keep trucking, fellow mamas!
  • I had spotting starting around week 5/6 of my pregnancy; I called my doctor each time and her nurse told me the same thing, unless it is HEAVY like a period and you're in pain, it's probably fine, just monitor it and take it easy. All of my spotting (or most of it, I suppose) has been mixed in with normal discharge which makes me think it's fine. I had my first appointment on March 7 and had an ultrasound -- saw the baby & heartbeat and everything. That day though, I had some red bleeding and was terrified; called the nurse again and she said it was likely from the tv ultrasound and I may just have a sensitive uterus. I had some spotting throughout the weekend after that. Then, the past few days I've had none -- it felt so nice to not see any pink, brown, or red on the toilet paper! However, starting yesterday 3/13, I had some red spotting mixed in with discharge. Today, I had some more in the morning and then, after getting home from shopping and lunch, quite a bit of reddish-brown (very thick) spotting. I'm not cramping and still feel very nauseous, so while my impulsive gut is screaming "Something is wrong!!!" the logical part of me is saying since I saw the heartbeat and this has happened before, it's probably fine, it's probably ok... ahhh! It's just so nerve-wracking!
