26 weeks and already dilated and effaced

So I had serve pain in my right upper quadrant and could not stop throwing up so I went to the hospital. They checked me and said I was already 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. The doctor on call didn't seem too concerned about it so I'm trying not to think to much in to it. I just need to hear that someone else is in this boat...

Re: 26 weeks and already dilated and effaced

  • If your doc isn't too worried, I suppose you can rest easy (or easier). However, this does seem early... I know women can go a long time being dilated and partially effaced without ever progressing, just never heard of it being 'normal' at this point. I'd be more concerned about the pain you're feeling and puking so much. Did they give any explanation for that at the hospital??

I hope this is nothing to worry about and you get some answers from your doctor SOON!

  • Thank you! They did some lab work which all came back normal so there wasn't an explanation for it... I'm going to see MY dr next week. He was out of town when I went in...
  • @ashley0769 I'm sorry you are going through this! I'll be sending good thoughts your way!
  • Hoping everything works out well for you and baby!

  • Hi there! I started dilating and effacing at 23 weeks. I wasn't in major pain but I had a little spotting and went to the hospital to check. I was about 1-2cm dilated and having slight contractions. I stayed in the hospital overnight and the next day I dilated up to 4cm. I ended up getting a cerclage and I also get progesterone shots every week. I'm now 27 weeks, doing fine and on modified bed rest until the dr says I can go back to work.

If the dr says things are normal I'm sure it's fine to wait until you see your regular dr. Just get plenty of rest but if you're feeling any more pain you should definitely go back to the hospital.

I hope things go well for you and the baby!!! Sending happy thoughts your way!
