There are 16 variations of the name so it is not incorrect. I never was a fan of it looking too much like Michael. That's why I don't spell it close to that way.

Just because there are "variations" on a name does not mean they are all correct.
The proper spelling is 'Michaela', unless you are Italian (Micaela, Michela) or Macedonian (Mihaela, Mihaila), or etc.... 'Makayla' is a trendy variant of the proper spelling. You might like the way one way looks than the other, but that doesn't seem to be good justification for giving your child a name they have to explain over & over again in the future.
The sticky post on this board explains it best. If you have not read the post below, please do.
My 8 yr old niece is Mikayla Rose She hates she can never find anything with her name. And her parents are a pediatrician and an attorney. .go figure.. not sure what mom was thinking.
No periods due to 17 years of ballet and distance running after college. Zero response to 2 months of Clomid, little response to Letrozole. IUI left with 9 cysts = too many viable eggs due to age. On to IVF. Low dose of all meds still produced 37 mature eggs 12.6.11. Froze due to overstimulation.

I prefer Jade to Rose. I probably would no matter what, but I especially do because Makayla, no matter how you spell it, is too cool, for lack of a better word, to have Rose, which is a little too sweet, follow it up... Jade complements it well.

This is funny, because when I first saw Makayla Jade, I thought both names were trying way too hard to be cool! I just can't take Jade seriously. It sounds like some random name a teenager would give themselves to sound "kewl". So, those two together are just laughable.
At least Rose is elegant and timeless... to balance out the "wannabe" look of Makayla.
Spell it proper. Because you don't deal with with the paperwork, the mispronunciations, the side eyes, the hassle of having a poorly or wrongly spelled name. The kid does. And it gets really freaking annoying. Your kid isn't going to care that it's "special" Your kid is going to think "I wish Mom was better at the English language"
@wassuphoesmattandlora I don't think it matters the spelling even though some may prefer a name a certain way. My name is spelled as people would say correctly and it is pronounced wrong all the time!! I have such an easy name but apparently it is hard.

Girl, did you not read?
A persons written name is the first impression anyone will get of you. Be it on a resume, a class roster, emails, etc. Give your kid the proper spelling, because it's the least likely to hinder her.
People are going to judge your kid, and by extension you, by how you spell her name. Micheala fares better then Makayla. Don't give your kid a spelling or name that makes life more annoying.
Agreeing with others about spelling it properly. I also had so many issues growing up with a different spelling of a common name. It really really sucks.
You all are being way too snitty about all this. You don't like the way she wants to spell HER child's name? Well, it's a good thing you're all having your own little ones then, isn't it? Goodness gracious.
I knew a girl named Makayla and she sincerely loved her name. She was outgoing, vibrant, hilarious...and somehow the unique spelling of her name really made it hers.
It is NOT too *out there* and it will NOT be too difficult for her to grow up with. I grew up going by my (actually difficult) middle name and it was frustrating, so it's not like I don't know what I'm talking about here.
All of this said, Makayla Rose sounds like perfection, it has my vote.
