Body Post Baby

Okay ladies, how do you feel your body is looking an early a year/over a year after birth? Back to the same? Parts altered for life? My belly button still sticks out, when it used to be a very pretty inny.

Re: Body Post Baby

  • The health system I work for offers biometric screenings annually and even though I did mine last year just a few weeks after birthing two babies my waist is somehow larger NOW and I weigh MORE than I did then! What the?! Are you kidding me?!

  • I'm pretty much the same as I was prebaby...which is to say fat and not thrilled with it. Only difference is that before I came up with excuses not to go to the gym and now I legit want to go to the gym and have a hard time getting there.

  • I'm bigger and about 15lbs heavier. My rib cage is wider, which I actually kind of like because it evens out my pear shape! I need to buy a brand new work wardrobe in the next few weeks before I go back. I got rid of everything that doesn't fit, which was pretty much all my pre-pregnancy clothing.

I've been doing the 30 day shred videos January and February and definitely notice a difference in my muscle tone! I went hiking a few weeks back with LO in the Osprey pack and realized that I need to stay fit so I can keep up with him as he gets older.

That is one of my greatest worries, that I wont be able to keep up with DD. I have very little cartilage remaining in both knees and it has finally gotten to the point this winter where I am having a hard time getting around. This is one of the reasons we chose "One and Done" because I am not sure how well my body will hold up once I reach 40

  • Ugh I am not happy with my body right now. This is my second baby and I had just gotten my body back to the point that I was content with it when I got pregnant with DD (that took 2 years). At almost a year post pregnancy this time I am about 10 pounds heavier with a jiggly belly that sticks out like I am still 5-6 months pregnant! I have been consistently working out 4-5 times a week for 40 minutes and loosely watching what I eat but apparently that is not good enough. I feel gross and hate how my belly is noticeable in all my clothes.
  • I'm just a few pounds away and can fit in my jeans but my body is just different- my hips somehow got even bigger and my belly is not nearly as firm; and it wasn't even that firm before!
  • Pretty much the same, down a few lbs of muscle that I probably would feel better getting back. My boobs will never recover without surgery thanks to 25 months of nursing behind them at this point.

  • I am 10 pounds pre-pregnancy weight but only because I essentially starved myself trying to figure out my babies food intolerances while breastfeeding. I did get down to 25 below pre-preg weight but I bounced back since. I am overall happy but I used to have a hard flat belly and now I am just kinda soft. No tone. My boobs look like they belong on a 11 year old.
  • I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but my clothes fit completely differently. We're still breastfeeding, and i eat like a cow. I'm a little afraid I'll blow up like a balloon when I stop BFing
  • My hips and rib cage will forever be widened. I have belts that even if I pull and strap down my access baby weight, there's no way my bones would allow for me to wear that belt again. My boobs? May they R.I.P.  I'm 3 pounds up from this pre-pregnancy and 8 pounds up from before kids. Overall I feel like I look great for having 3 kids but I'm still going to keep working on it nonetheless! :D

  • I'm the same weight and size, which I'm happy with, but my belly isn't firm yet and my boobs are even smaller (didn't think that was possible) and deflated. And theirs something weird with my ribs. This is my second, and there is just an adjustment learning to dress my new shape. It doesn't bother me most of the time, I just try to be healthy. My endurance on the other hand is not great. I went on a 2 mile run yesterday and feel terrible today!

  • I wish my hips had expanded! I am built like an inverted triangle. Broad shoulders and ribcage and very narrow hips. I would love to have bigger hips.

  • This is my second LO. I still have to lose 5 pounds to get back to my pre-BFP weight. My body changed dramatically after my first but not so much with my second. I look almost back to normal when dressed, but undressed, I'm soft all over/not toned. I've had two sections and have barely exercised since so my muscle tone is pretty low.

  • Side note: Google "shape of a mother". It's an interesting, probably not safe for work, website that shows real moms bodies before, during, and after pregnancy/birth. It made me feel so much better and really reinforces that every body is different but pregnancy/childbirth changes every body too.

  • It took me 4 mos to get back into my pre-preg clothes/weight after my first, 6 mos after my second, but after this one, my hips and rib age feel like they will never go back down. I think a lot of it has to do with the season of baby's birth. Now that it's getting back into the 40's and we'll be outside more, I think I'll drop the last 5lbs I have to go.

  • I am 2 pounds lighter than pre-pregnancy however my tummy will never be the same. I have a lot of excess skin and about a zillion stretch marks. No more bikinis for this mama! I guess that is what happens when I am 5'4" and had a 9lb 6 oz baby! At least my cs scar is looking invisible.

  • I lost all my baby weight the first few months but now at 11 months post partum I am up 6 lbs. Don't know if that has anything to do with breastfeeding or not. My belly is def very soft, I read somewhere this will get better after weaning could be total hoax. I have some very deflated boobs but nothing a bra can't fix I guess...
  • I feel like I'm lighter than I was but I still have some pudge....I have some stretch marks for sure. @Katy0525 I'm jealous of your cs scar! Mine is still pretty rough looking.
  • Ok question for the ladies with c-sections. My scar is very light, but the entire area around my scar is super puffy. It feels squishy and puffs out way more than before pregnancy. I can't imagine what it will look like in a bathing suit. Does anyone else have this problem? What are we supposed to do about it? It doesn't seem like something that will go away naturally.
  • I have a small spot around my scar that is numb, obviously there is some nerve damage. @emilyann64 , is it puffy skin or underneath the skin?

  • Top of my scar bulges out like the skin above

I have this too! I was told it is totally normal. Mine isn't crazy puffy but some what. I have heard from other cs mamas that people call it "the shelf". I have no idea if it is possible to getbrid of our not.

@BADASBKRCK Most of my scar area is numb. Apparently, if I have another cs recovery will be a little leas horrible because of the numb area. I guess it maybe has its benefits. Also, love what you call your stretch marks! I call mine baby art. Just a nice piece of art to remind me how lucky I was to carry my little man!

  • Yeah, I have that shelf thing too. It's weird, and definitely makes things fit differently. But I imagine/hope it'll sort out over time as I get more muscle tone back. Maybe?
  • My scar area is numb, so is most of my lower stomach/pelvis region. The scar is flat, it's lightened but still visible. My lower stomach sticks out a little. I had the shelf thing going on after baby one and after baby two the left side of my "shelf" sticks out farther than my right side. I don't think it will ever be fixed without a tummy tuck but it has improved a little with diet and exercise.

  • @BADASBKRCK it's like the whole area is fattier or something. It isn't the skin itself. I've been working out like crazy so hopefully it will start to improve. Thanks for the feedback ladies!
  • I have pudge anyway so who knows about a shelf. My scar is Definently not flat though. No numbness that I can tell...
  • I'm down about five pounds less than when I got pregnant, but my belly is definitely bigger and softer. But, I'm ok with it. DH is always telling me how awesome I look and even though I know I'm not at my best, it's good for now. I haven't worked out in a year and I used to be a gym rat. Once we get into our new house I'm planning on joining a gym and spending a little more time on me... But we're TTC so not sure how far this will go!
