trying for a baby

Me (25) and my fiancé (24)have recently started trying for a baby. I stopped the pill a week before my period was due in February. I had my period 2 days earlier than usual. I've always been regular and have a 28 day cycle. However I was due on yesterday (Fri) but no show. I usually get very mild cramps and a lil headache but iv had no signs of those either. We did a pregnancy test first thing in the morning but it was negative. Could it be too early too test? Or do you think stopping the pill has thrown my body off?

Re: trying for a baby

  • It likely threw your body off. You had a 28 day cycle because you were on the pill.
But you could be pregnant too. Just keep waiting and testing.

    False hope isn't helpful.

    To OP:
More than likely you just need to let your body readjust. If you must test, do so once a week until you get a BFP or AF. If you go 60 days without either, call your doctor so she can give you something to jump start your period.
  • I don't think I gave false hope. I said it likely threw off her body by stopping the pill. But that she could be pregnant, which is possible, she just has to wait and see.

It's not what you said, it's how you said it.
  • The 28 cycle that you have on BCP really has no bearing on what your natural cycle will look like. Maybe you tested to early, or maybe you didn't, there is no way to tell if you aren't charting BBT. At this point, you are not pregnant.

Your body can take some time to adjust to being off the pill. You cannot compare a 28day cycle on the pill to a cycle off. Your cycles are regulated and it's not a real period, it's a hormonal withdrawal which is why you bleed. I would suggest temping starting cd1 when your period does come. Using OPKs can also help to narrow down the time frames where you are supposed to ovulate and temping can confirm that you have. Getting pregnant is a combo of good luck and proper timing which is very easy to miss, especially when your coming off the pill and do not know your "normal" cycle. Remember a cycle can change at any time, usually the follicular phase, once you have a good grip on when your ovulating and how long your luteal phase is then you will know when to test and when to expect af. Good luck!

  • Your cycle has always been 28 days because you took pills that made it 28 days. Your natural cycle could be totally different. It took me about 3 months to adjust being off the pill, and my cycles ended up being 35-37ish days. Everyone is different though. Like PPs have said, give it some time and start charting your temperature.
  • My cycle has always been 28 days for years before I even went on the pill.I am new to this so I don't even no what temping and other terms used are :/ thanks for the reply.I'd appreciate some help lol
  • There's a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility, it will explain everything you need to know.

Ok. It's normal for cycles to vary in length even if they've been the same for years. Also, after being on the pill your body has to learn to regulate your hormones again, so your cycle length might vary for that reason.

Test once a week until you get your period or a positive test. If you go 60 days without either call your doctor.

I know you want to remain positive.

But the test is negative, so at this time you're not pregnant.

Test once a week until you get a BFP or your period, and if you go 60 days without either, call your doctor.
  • So there was stil no sign of my period which made me a week late I used a first responsetest this morning and omg I couldn't believe it.I'm pregnant! Me n my fiancé are so excited so happy.

    Congrats!
Since your test took longer to come out positive, be aware that you might not be as far along as you think. You probably ovulated later than CD 14, so don't be alarmed if your first ultrasound shows that.
