Large fundal height

Hi all.  I have a question, but first some background information.  I am due June 8th and so far every appointment I have measured a cm behind my weeks... until my last appointment.  I was 23w 3d and measured 31cm.  A sudden 6cm jump.  My midwife (whom I really like and trust) suggested waiting until my next appointment to see how things grow.  I have measured myself and know I will still measure about 6cm ahead of my weeks.  So my questions are... 1. Could gestational diabetes cause such a large jump?  My two pregnancies that resulted in healthy babies were 8lbs 1oz and 9 days late and 9lbs 6oz 10 days late.  So my babies have been big but late.  I've never had trouble with GD before, but I am over weight.  I am not swelling or spilling sugar and I already do not eat much sugar or white carbs.  2. Have any of you found out this late in pregnancy that you are having twins?  I would love this outcome but twins do not run in our family and there only seems to be one baby moving... but I do have an anterior placenta.  3. Have any of you had a sudden jump and would you share your experience?  I know Polyhydromnios (extra fluids) could be an explanation but I don't seem to have the symptoms that go with that either.  I will know more Thursday and likely have my first sonogram Tuesday if need be.  I've done good at controlling my thoughts and not obsessing but the closer I get to my appointment the more I think about it.  Thank you for reading and for your input.

  • If you haven't had an ultrasound yet it is possible that there could be a twin. It could also just be baby's position. I am measuring ahead and I'm pretty sure it is because baby is breech.

Were  you measuring right on and then over a month have a jump?  I've heard that breach could make measurements large but I think the feet are up on the left.
  • My doctor only measured me at my 24 week appointment, so I don't know how I was measuring before.
  • I'm no help just wanted to say my cousin had this and everything was fine...
  • I measured big at my appt today (this was the first time I was measured) but they're sending me for an ultrasound on Thursday. I also am being told I need to gain more weight but I do know it can be caused by diabetes. My mom and grandma both said they measured big in their pregnancies. I'm not going to stress about it until after my ultrasound. I hope everything turns out okay for you.

I hope so for you too. How far along are you? It's great your getting answers soon too. We just have to make it through one more day. I feel like everything is okay but I just don't like not knowing it all.
  • I just got back from a 28 week visit and was told the same thing. The dr wasn't really concerned but wanted to do a sonogram next week just to see what's causing me to measure big. I haven't gained a lot of weight and my glucose test came back normal. It's definitely nerve wracking to not know but trying to stay positive and not worry. Good luck with your ultrasound :)

I agree. I'll be 27 weeks tomorrow and I'm measuring at 30. When I had my anatomy scan a while back they said the baby was measuring 2 days behind. It's hard to say what they will tell me tomorrow.
  • Nothing was mentioned to me at 24 weeks. I was told at 26 weeks I was measuring big. Got an ultrasound last week and he looked fine. Went today for 28 week appt and still measuring big. This time I thought to ask measurements and I was told measuring 33. I'm not worried though.

Just had the ultrasound today. I haven't heard from my doctor but the tech told me the baby is on the big side of normal and also breech. She didn't seem concerned, I'll know more once the doctor calls. I hope your appt goes well @mommaexpecting.
