Chronic illness/pain

Anyone out there with chronic illness or chronic pain? Want to share and discuss how the pregnancy is affecting you? I have an autoimmune disease called Sjogren's syndrome and I experience chronic fatigue, pain, G.I. issues, and a host of other problems. I have to say at this point in my pregnancy, 26 weeks, the pain is getting excruciating, especially my back and my legs. Like I said I have chronic pain in these areas so it's not new but I'm trying very hard not to take anything more than Tylenol. My doctor has said I can still use my muscle relaxer and Tramadol (pain med) but I'm trying hard not to. I already have to take some medication for the Sjogren's. I'm just trying to minimize how much the baby is exposed to (while still following doctors orders of course). Just looking to see if there are others out there going through something similar and how you're doing.

  • A friend of mine just had her baby with Lupus. The baby had to come out at 34 weeks though because they thought her blood could potentially be poisoned or something if she stayed in there any longer. Seemed like a rough journey for her! Good luck and more power to you for not taking pills!

  • I have fibromyalgia and arthritis and struglle with back/ hip pain as well.  I have found that regular trips to the chiropracter are really helpful for me.  I also take a muscel relaxer at bed time to help with the chronic pain.  So sorry you are struggling.  Hang in there.

  • I have lupus and a non functioning bladder. The lupus causes all sorts of added aches and pains and any other symptom I could possibly get. My body is not fighting infection whatsoever and I've caught MRSA from self cathing. That alone is causing problems that complicate pregnancy. I didn't expect to have so many problems. It's frustrating because I wanted this baby soooo bad and now I'm not enjoying pregnancy at all.
  • Thanks for the support ladies. Sjogren's has some commonalities with lupus & fibro (plus one doctor said I have fibro too, I don't know) but I'm sure we can all relate. @devyns2nd sorry it's been so rough! At least we get something sweet out of all this in the end!
