Stopping and need support

After seeing a LC, I've tried to get LO to eat better/latch better and still no luck. Nipple shields aren't help h either and LO stays hungry all the time because I'm not producing enough (LC said so). Last night after an hour and a half of trying to feed LO, I was sore and in tears. My husband supplemented a bottle so I could gather myself and so LO would be full and sleep.

I'm so sad to have to stop but I've really tried everything. It just seems my milk supply doesn't want to work well now. After talking to my husband, we've decided to stop breastfeeding since it's not working anymore.

Thing is, it's hard for me to accept it and I don't even know where to start with quitting. I've googled the topic and all the links were aimed at 6mo+ weaning. Nothing about a 3.5 month old.

I guess I just need some advice and support since I don't have anyone around me to talk to or get tips from.

I'm hoping I can stop being emotional about this but I feel I'm letting LO down so much...

  • Did you mean 3.5 month old?

Hang it there. It's hard but the most important thing is you do what's best for your baby and yourself.

I would contact a lactation consultant for help and how to wean at that age. Good luck!

  • Haha. Yes I meant month, not year. Fixed my post. Thanks.

And I've looked into the La Leche League and they've helped me this far so I'll probably check their forum out again. But just needed to find some place to get advice and support and stuff outside of their as well.
  • Lurker here but i went through this with DS. I was put on reglan to help with a low supply and it did help a lot, maybe that's something you can talk to your Dr about?
Despite the reglan i ended up having to stop breastfeeding at four months. DS had gotten a cold and wouldn't nurse for a week and pumping didn't do enough to keep my supply up, so i had no choice but to stop. It was really hard on me, but i now have a healthy 17 month old. Formula didn't harm him, and giving it to him didn't make me a bad mom. I did the best i could and gave him four months of antibodies, something to be proud of!
