Registry annoyances (vent)

I am registered at Babies r Us and Target, mostly out of convenience for friends and family as these are the easiest and most familiar places in my area. With that said I HATE babies r us! This is the third time in the last month that essential items I registered for, after spending a lot of time researching, comparing, and choosing have been removed from the website. My travel system stroller and bassinet have both disappeared and they don't carry anything similar. Target doesn't either! I don't want to start a separate registry for one or two items so I might just suck it up and buy them myself before I research a third choice only to have it be gone in a week. No real point to this other than to say I'm disappointed in babies r us selection.

I had the same experience with BRU when I registered with my first child.... It became so annoying when they randomly discontinued things... amazon might be a good option since it's all online and people have the flexibility to send you things without the shipping charge (even for just a few items).

I refused to register at BRU! The store we have here is super run down & trashy. I registered at Buy Buy Baby & Target. Registering at Target was an awful experience!

I only registered at Amazon. When I got married we registered at BB&B and Amazon, and BB&B was miserable while Amazon was super convenient for both me and my wedding guests. When registering for baby, I didn't even bother with anything else - Amazon is the way to go, IMO!

I also only registered on amazon. DH and I have lived all over the US (each of the 4 corners, and now the middle) and that was just the easiest place for friends from all our former places to access.

ETA also just super convenient

Not that everyone would be aware of this, but another nice thing about Amazon is that people can buy the item elsewhere and update the registry that it was purchased.

I love Amazon for everything else, but my relatives are all on the older side so my mom insisted I register at places with retail locations. That being said Amazon is now the only place I can get the bassinet I wanted!

I am doing BRU and Amazon as well. However I'm finding that I'm putting more on BRU since their return policy is friendlier and we get credit for the the purchases. I am using Amazon for anything that is significantly cheaper there or not on BRU. DH and I are actually doing our first joint in person trip to BRU to look at the "big items" and it's gonna be a disaster, I'm sure of it. I'm too sensitive right now and will probably start crying if he disagrees with me on anything.

Ugh I registered at babies r us too. My best friend went in to buy me a pack and play and the sales associate said it wasn't available, then she wanted to buy me a baby swing and the sales associate also said that wasn't available and won't be in until 2016!! Why the F are you letting me add items to my registry that won't be available until 2016? Then the lady said that a whole bunch of my other items were not available either, why did they not contact me to let me and tell me that I had to pick other stuff?

I'm registered at babies r us too and I am definitely not impressed with them. The only reason I went with them is because our families are so spread out..mine is is ny and dhs is in Indiana.. We have a lot of older people that don't really know how to work an online registry. I wish I did two registries. I just find babies r us highly irritating lol

Our babies r us is not in the greatest area but it's that or USA baby, which is local. USA baby is a nice store but I figured BRU is easy for family. I've put a few things on pottery barn kids. I haven't had a bad experience with BRU yet (fingers crossed). I've always heard target is a nightmare with registries so that was a no from the beginning.

I had such an awful experience with bru, went there to register and a conpletely different associate then the one we spoke withe followed my husband and me around telling us what to add without us asking her anything or even starting a convo! It was awful. I have since refused to go there. We did our registry on amazon. I'm a prior amazon employee it works great for all our families.

I had the same experience with BRU. Picked a travel system and pack-n-play on the registry then both went on clearance the next week and disappeared the week following. I decided not to bother and closed the registry at BRU and registered at Target, Amazon, and Walmart. Walmart for basic items and convenience since we have a lot of family in rural areas that have neither internet access or a Target near them.

Like everyone else is saying - Amazon is amazing. Another thing to consider is asking for just gift cards. My mom is throwing me an out-of-state shower that I have to fly to, so to avoid the hassle of flying back any gifts I receive we've let the guests know that this is a gift card shower and why. Honestly though this is such a relief to me because I'm very picky and many of the guests have (in my opinion) very...tacky taste, so now I don't need to worry about faking joy over horrible gifts. Or worry about what to do with certain items that will be useless to us (disposable diapers, mainly, since we're cloth diapering and will only have "green" disposables on-hand for when someone else is babysitting).

This makes me so nervous to register at BRU!! We were gonna next week since it's the only store near us with a larger selection. We were also going to do target but they don't have the stroller system we want. Or a great selection on things. Oh boy

All of my friends and family have registered at babies r us without problems. I'm sure it will be fine. If you find a travel system you "have to have" then I would go ahead and get it. I did that. I registered for a couple 4mom things that I doubt they will discontinue. They were really helpful in telling me "don't register for xyz" bc those are items that change a lot. It may just be store dependent. You also get money back at BRU.

@katyertl you could always go to BRU to 'test drive' items and then register on amazon instead. That's what DH and I did. Unless you think that most of the people buying for you are not web savvy and *need* to go to an actual store.

Ugh! I remember that with my first! I also noticed with BRU and Target that when I would go on to check my registry I was registered for random things I didn't register for (and random girl things which was super annoying since I was having a boy). I would recommend going online and just scrolling through your registry after a week or two.

I'm Amazon and then this other registry online so I could put all my cloth diapers from the local boutique. Bad thing on it is that there is shipping charge or store pick up only (shower is out of town) Good thing is that buying local is awesome! My mom was mad no retail spots for older folks but I told her I'm sure their kids would help them out. The shower is giving me flashbacks to wedding planning with her and my sister

I had a problem with BRU with my first. Friends and family would buy items, then BRU wouldn't take it off the registry. Not everyone gives gift receipts at the shower because they figure the gift was on your registry… Well, since I had multiple duplicate items without receipts, I went to return/exchange them. The big problem was that BRU has a limit to the dollar amount of items you can return per person without a receipt!!! We had to separate returns under my name, hubby's name and even my mom's name (they make you show your driver's license and input the number into their computer for returns without a receipt). Major pain in the butt. It was their fault to begin with for not marking items on the registry when they were purchased. (yes, I know many of my friends did present my registry when they purchased because they told me about their frustration when they saw me open their duplicate gifts as well). That's also frustrating for your guests who are excited to see you receive something they thoughtfully picked out for you and your baby.

Another thing for those who are concerned about friends and family who aren't tech-savvy being able to access your baby registry - when I got married, I found that those who couldn't figure out the Amazon registry didn't look at the Bed Bath and Beyond one, either, even in stores. For the most part, those who had trouble with Internet/technology were older, and their generation wasn't accustomed to registries in general. They preferred to come up with gifts on their own - which, honestly, I found to be super thoughtful, and in many cases, these gifts are the ones that I ended up appreciating the most because people had put so much thought into what they were going to get me and my husband. I'm definitely not saying you shouldn't make a baby registry - as I mentioned above, I have one on Amazon - but, in my experience, those who wouldn't have been able to figure out the Amazon one weren't interested in looking at registry stuff in the first place, so if that's your only reason for having an in-store registry and you're finding the in-store registry process to be a pain in the neck (as I did with my wedding), you might be better off just having the Amazon one and leaving it at that.

BRU and target are horrible at taking items off the registry! It was so frustrating dealing with this over the phone and half the time they couldn't figure it out... Target once told me I would have to return to the store to return the items and re-buy them.... Major annoyance!
