Insurance breast pump (medela

okay ladies I received my breast pump from my insurance and of course it's starter set (just the pump) and I'm just wondering what else I would need for the pump. Spare parts, accessories, etc.

Did it come with the bag? I've read most insurance pumps do not. But have also read reviews on the Medela bag saying it's too small. What all did it come with?
Edit: I can't read....i see it says just pump. Der

  • My insurance medala breast pump didn't come with a bag.it came with the pump, tubing, breast shields,adapter,2 bottles, breast pads and coupons. The day after they sent me 6 bottles for storage.
  • I called my insurance company and they completely confused me. I know they will cover up to $100.00 for a manual and something about my deductible otherwise. I'm making my
D/H call back with me to explain it. Lol and I need a prescription from my Dr. for one. How ridiculous is that?!

They're probably trying to keep random people from ordering pumps for, um, "leisure" reasons.

    2nd round exp 8/20/18.
    Meow.
  • I opened the box and it also came with the tubing, adapter, breast shields, 2 bottles, breast pads, power cord. But I was just wondering if there were anything else needed besides the bags.
  • I needed a prescription for mine too but the medical supply place I got mine from faxed my doctor and did everything for me. They just need my insurance info and doctors office info. And I received it a week later.
  • You might want a battery adaptor or car charger which you can get on Amazon pretty cheap. Otherwise it should be everything you need.
I plan to just get a different cuter bag and cooler pack anyway so I didn't opt to get the extras they offered me for a charge.
  • My pump came with a bag, car adapter, bottles, ice pack, and storage container all from Medela. I would recommend getting the right size breast shields as too small shields will cause pain and discomfort. Look up on Medela's site for the correct size. I also used a hands free bra so I could double pump.

I had to have a prescription as well. Helps keep people from getting a free one and selling it.
  • I was offered an "upgrade" over the base model that insurance covers...I was able to use HSA dollars for it. I wound up with:

Medela PISA starter set (just the pump and necessary parts for use)
    Metro bag
    battery pack
    Cooler bag with ice pack
    mesh storage bags
    A total of 10 bottles

They offered the metro bag, on the go tote, and backpack as upgrades. The only one of the three bags where the pump itself is removable is the metro, which is why I picked that one. The pump is sewn into the other bags.

I used aeroflowinc.com and they did all of the insurance verification for me...it was super convenient and fast...the pump arrived 2 days after I placed the order.
  • I called my insurance and they told me i could order it 60 days before my due date.. but i need a prescription from my dr.. theyre actualy covering the whole thing.. they will ship it to me the next day.. its a Medela pump in style advanced.. its a commercial grade double electric pump and it comes jn a bag and supposedly is bringing bottles and cooler and spare parts... i guess we'll see if thats true in April when i order it!!!
  • I ordered mine from Aeroflow, they took care of working with my insurance and getting the scrip from my doc. It also had the pump (in it's own bag), plug adapter, 2 bottles, suckers, and tubes. Another package came that had 6 extra bottles. I was told from a friend the battery pack is more powerful than the plug, she had to buy a big bag, and you can find the sterilizing pouch at babies r us. In fact she told me all the extra things could be found at babies r us at a reasonable price. I liked Aeroflow because I got my breast pump 13 weeks early.

    Hope that helps.

You will need more membranes because you have to replace them frequently to ensure good performance. Also ditto the others that said make sure the shields are the right size for you. Also, if you will be pumping at work or somewhere outside of the home, you might want the special wipes that help you clean your parts anywhere. Also, Medela makes bags that you can sterilize your parts in that are pretty handy. Lastly, a hands free bra and plenty of bottles to pump into. :)

Not ridiculous at all if you want your insurance to pay for it. It's the same as getting any other durable medical supplies.

    Quote fail- sorry!
  • The starter set was free with my insurance but I paid 95 dollar up charge for the backpack so easier once return to work. Had a send prescription too.
  • Thank you ladies for all the helpful info!
