what does a.contraction feel like

When I was pregnant with my first I had horrible back labor.
With this one I'm nervous. I keep getting back pain that goes around to my stomach. It last a minute or two and then comes back a few minutes later. I have a uti so Idk of I'm just hurting because of that. . I hate not knowing what the Hell to do.

    My contractions are kind of like a tightening that starts out weak but intensifies as it moves down into my pelvis. Its like a period cramp but more intense. They kinda tsje my breath away in their intensity as well

    Does your OB or L&D have a triage line you can call? If you're concerned you're in preterm labor they can hook you up to a monitor and tell you if what you're feeling are contractions. And, if they are, give you something to stop them.

    My early labor contractions were as @djhudson9107 described: like intense menstrual cramps combined with a rock hard belly. Also very regular and time-able. Later the pain intensified and became very centered on my cervix.

    A UTI will do it -  I got a UTI around 31 weeks with my first pregnancy and it made me start having regular Braxton Hicks. I also recall that my contractions would start as if they were a menstrual cramp feeling and then expand around to my lower back with tightening of whole belly region - very regular at about every 4 / 5 minutes. 

    Definitely don't feel bad about checking in with your OB or asking to come over to the office. I had bad Braxton Hicks with lower back pain a few weeks ago and went in to see my OB. They hooked me up to the monitor and monitored the contractions for a while until we were able to get them to ease off. (Drink lots of fluids).  It was incredibly reassuring -

    Yea. I just don't like my ob. I've been to l&d and they act like I'm stupid for coming. Ugh. I wish I had my own monitor at home lol
