So I'm 38 weeks and 1 day. I have been reading so much about these labor cookies that are not only delicious but effective. What do you ladies think? I'm baking a batch now, so we shall see what happens. Wish me luck =P~ :-SS
Just looked them up. I think I'll wait until I'm a little more like 39 weeks (38+2 right now) and then give them a try. I'm a wimp with spicy stuff and not a fan of ginger snap.. Too bad they aren't like magical chocolate chip cookies haha!
Made them, ate lots- I thought they were delicious (so did my H), and I did have contractions a little while later, but absolutely no progress. They might work if you're already close to natural labor and spicy food is your trigger.
I tried the pineapple thing twice and I've been drinking red raspberry leaf tea (39 1/2 weeks now), but I get regular contractions all the time. The day after I ate the second pineapple, I ended up having major contractions that seemed to be it, but they stopped overnight. I don't think there's much to do to hasten labor, to be honest, and I'd rather not upset my stomach anymore since my heartburn has been so bad. So I might hold off on the labor cookies.
Just google "labor cookies" - there's one recipe floating around out there @ju123 I agree with pp, there really isn't a way to hasten natural labor - your body will only do it if it's ready.
Found the below recipe and going to so give this a try! Thought I'd share
Jump-Start Your Labor Cookies
2 1/2 c. flour 1 1/2 t. baking soda 3/4 t. cinnamon 1 t. ground ginger 1/2 t. ground cloves 1/2 t. salt 1/2 t. cayenne pepper 8 T. butter 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. brown sugar 1/3 c. molasses 1/4 c. egg whites
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, baking soda and spices and set aside. Cream the butter and sugars together. Add the molasses to the creamed butter then add the egg whites until combined. Add the dry ingredients slowly. Once incorporated, roll dough into 1 inch balls and place onto baking tray. Bake 8-10 minutes. Once cool eat as many as you can possibly stomach, lay down for a nap and wait for labor to begin!
Well, I'm eating my words. I was feeling better today heartburn-wise, so decided to whip up a batch (minor alterations to the above recipe to make them gluten free because I'd rather not deal with getting a migraine). I ate about six at 3:30 and nothing happening now, 2 1/2 hours later, except nausea and heartburn. So we will see if they work. If nothing else, they are pretty tasty!
So I made them and ate about 9 of them... (they were pretty big ones too) and started having contractions. No baby yet though. The recipe above is the exact one I used. None the less they were pretty darn delicious. My husband was a little skeptical at first about them but as always he tried something for me and he didn't mind them at all. Unfortunately the Labor Cookies were a no go for me. Just some contractions and a little nauseous (most likely because I ate 9 of them! Let me know if the work for anyone else.
Yeah, I've eaten them in large amounts for about a week and absolutely no changes. But, like I said, they tasted pretty good! They did help to kick start my metabolism again, though. I had been getting really nauseous and I think the ginger in them helps. I might use them for morning sickness during my next pregnancy (hopefully not any time soon!) minus the cayenne pepper.
